Hi

I would recommend looking at our advisories for a possible workaround.
(just click the SA number next to the insecure unpatched program in the PSI)

Do not browse untrusted sites.

Use Finjan SecureBrowsing:
http://securebrowsing.finjan.com <== Not Windows 7 compatable yet

or Browser Defender™:
http://www.browserdefender.com <== Windows 7 compatable

Thank you for the tip. I was wondering when the exploit will be patched officially though.

(unknown source)
Microsoft Security Advisory: Vulnerability in Microsoft DirectShow could allow remote code execution
To implement the workaround that disables QuickTime parsing

Will that get rid of the IE8 warning?

"Hej Der er kommet hjælp til denne trussel Klik ind her og læs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971778"

Roughly translates from Norwegian to:

"Hey there is help for this threat, click on this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971778"

But this is a separate issue altogether.

Men dette er en separat problemet helt.

I am not sure if this would help in this situation, but running IE in a sandbox with sandboxie http://www.sandboxie.com/ may help to protect your system against threats.

As long as you don't mind spending €22 Euros on someting you can do for free.

Sandboxie is Free , but asks for voluntary contributions of €22 for enhanced facilities . I have used Sandboxie for free for a very long time as part of my "layered security" system .
I can highly recommend using a sandbox or similar "virtual" software ; but you need to apply yourself to make this kind of security software do it's job.
Please note , if I can make it work , then you all should be able to do the same.
Take care.

Sorry, but as a Dane I have to correct this - the language used is Danish :o). But the given translation from "Norwegian" ;-) is correct .

Almost all Danes speak English, by the way, so I don't understand why it was written in Danish.

Another thing I don't understand is why the post links to something that appears to be a solution to something completely different. Character sets are not mentioned at all in the article which is being linked to.

This also doesn't seem to have anything to do with character sets and this issue, as well as I can tell.
