The installer fails even when Java 13 is un-installed from Add/Remove Programs.

The sub-folders of C:\Program Files\Java jre6 have to be removed manually!

Error: 25099 during Java installation

I had the same error when I tried to download V14 using Firefox without first uninstalling V13, on my Vista Premium 32Bit.
V14, however, automatically uninstalled V13 and then I got error 25099.
As a result I was left without Java and scratching my head.
Many attempts to install V14 or even V13, using FF, failed.
I then did a search for Java, and found a folder left behind by the uninstall of V13. I manually deleted this folder.

I then used IE8 and V14 installed with no problems.
IMHO if V14 is supposed to uninstall V13, it should do so properly and not leave remnants behind.

Last edited on 2nd Jun, 2009 14:23 What I found I had to do because Java had been removed from Add/Remove Programs was to open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E) then navigate to C:\Program Files\Java then manually delete jre6 Folder then the update would install correctly.

The Java applet is removed from Control Panel so the service can not be stopped.

Well people let me add another method that works for me, not just on Java but a lot of programs.
i. Download new program & save-not run.
ii. Using Revo uninstaller to remove old program.
iii.Reboot.
iv. Install update/program.
v. Reboot
vi. Delete installer program.
vii. Reboot & rescan program.
viii. Sit back, relax, enjoy favorite beverage.
BTW Revo uninstaller is a free program.

Regards, wr
