Today I decided to pull up PSI just to see how it was doing. Apparently Apple released a patch 3 days ago and PSI found it, but other than the one-time notification bubble, never notified me. Would it be possible to have tray icons that indicate the status of your system, like some virus scan programs that change the color of the tray icon to indicate status? The whole reason PSI appeals to me is that it is mostly hands-off. I don't have to worry about my software being up to date, PSI will notify me when it needs updated.

Thank you.

Do U not get a result if U hover your cursor over the tray icon?

I may be reading your post incorrectly. Are U suggesting that U rely on Secunia alone to notify U of programme updates?

Secunia will not do that. It does not report on updates by vendors who issue cosmetic changes, bug fixes nor programmes that are at Beta or RC stage.

Many I note on this Forum use a dual approach. Secunia for security notifications & FileHippo for general updates.

FileHippo is at http://www.filehippo.com/

I still think your icon idea would be a nice feature.

In addition to filehippo , I use Update Notifier - free from CleanSoft - for product updates.

I really don't care about cosmetic updates and I don't expect PSI to keep up with beta software updates. What I care about is that PSI will find an insecure program and not notify you of it. Yes, I can hover my cursor over the tray icon and get a tool-tip saying that there are insecure programs, but if I have to do that why install PSI at all? My anti-virus software doesn't require me to hover my cursor over its icon to tell me that I'm infected with a virus, or that it wasn't able to update, or anything else. I can sit down at my computer and instantly know the status of my anti-virus software. I put PSI in the same category, it is PC security software, just like an anti-virus, malware scanner, or firewall.
