I am getting insecure notices for the following modules in Office 2003: Xcel located @ C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE (update KB969681), Word located @ C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE (update KB969603), Powerpoint located @C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\POWERPNT.EXE (update KB957784)and Word viewer C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WORDVIEW.EXE (no patch avail).

Based on what I had to do previously to eliminate the PPTviewer false positve, I have downloaded the updates and extracted the files. It appears that the version of the update is older than what is currently installed. I assume that is why when I try to install the updates I get a message that they cannot be installed. I have tried rescanning several times with no luck.

Suggestions?

I have successfully upgrade my "Windows Update" to "Microsoft Update", this allowed me to automatically update my office programs through microsofts site...

I guess I am not understanding what you mean as I have gone in thru microsoft updates and it doesn't take. I have even searched for the specific update and tried downloading that way. As I mentioned previously, the version of the update appears to be older than what is already on my computer: the current version on all four programs begins as 11.0.82..
whereas the version on the update is 10.0.8...

It would be great if it is as easy as just updating so please explain a little better what you are talking about.

I don't think these are false positives (my Office 2003 was patched correctly). In that case, you should probably not be manually extracting the files from the update file. That is a special case with the PPTView.EXE patch.

If the version of the exe files starts with 10.... they would not seem to be the right ones for Office 2003 (which is actually Version 11).

I understand that these are not the current versions of update, but these are the updates that the Secunia link downloads

I a running into the same problem. I have downloaded the patches KB969681 & KB969603, tried to install them but I get a "update cannot be applied" error message.

I have also confirmed that I have SP3 installed.

Now what do I do???

I have the identical problem and had begun to wonder if something is wrong with the installer.
I am interested in the same solution.
