Secunia notifies that the above noted Excel version is insecure. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find an update for that, because the update link from Secunia leads to the general Microsoft update website only, and the Microsoft update doesn't find an update.

You're wellcome.

I have a legal installation of MS Office 2000 SB, later expanded to Office Pro.

Usually, the automatic updater loads all Windows XP patches by itself.

The support for Office 2000 has ended, so I went to the MS Office page and clicked on a button to let their software search my Office system and notify me of updates.

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifeoffice: "The Office 2000 extended support period will last from July 1, 2004 through July 14, 2009."

There still are updates! I'm sure that the Secunia warning was correct. But it seems I have to find the patch by myself.

Hi Maurice,

thank you for answering! :) Sorry, but I didn't understand your reply, because the hyperlink is somewhat a little bit odd ...

When I "bing" ;) the items "office 2000 update", I get displayed many Microsoft Office updates. In fact, exept of one of them, I have installed all of them before. I'm missing this brilliant option formerly provided to let the official Microsoft website search my update history.

And now, since I got the notification from Secunia, I'm missing a concrete link or guidepost to the fitting update ...

Excuse me, if it's a bit too fastidious, I'm just asking for it. ;)

Regards, csi

Do not think U will do better than that. All Office Products used to be able to use an update search on the Office website.

Office 2003 & Office 2007 now rely on Microsoft Updates for the search & download instructions. The practice to use a standalone search site has or will in the near future close for all Office products.

Looks like your site has closed & was sadly, never part of Microsoft update.

Thank you for replying, again.

Yes, it seems to be like that. So I'm going to look for the needed update manually.

For some of the recommended updates, Secunia provides their users with a detailed and fitting hyperlink. It's the first of the five icons to be seen besides a listed program, in german, "Direkt Link".

Perhaps Secunia isn't able to recognize the update needed automatically, I don't know ... :(

Regards, CSI

My Secunia Score is 99%, actually. I'm missing 100%, because one of my programs is too expensive for me to update ... :(

Now I got it fixed. Excel 2000 is now version 9.0.0.8979.

Within the Secunia Advisories, N° SA35364 (http://secunia.com/advisories/35364/), it's a little bit conceiled in the page 2 (http://secunia.com/advisories/35364/2/), there is a link to the update needed.

They know it, but it's really difficult to find it deeply within the advisory boards ...

I too was taken to the general microsoft update site when I clicked secunia download solution link, and there was no update there.

However, I then

1. Went to office.microsoft.com
2. Clicked "Downloads"
3. Clicked "Office Update" in the lefthand "Downloads" column

After letting it update the updater and genuine advantage tool, the updater found the security fix for this problem as well as a couple of other recent security patches.

Letting these install fixed the problem (after clicking the rescan button in Secunia.

Thanks again,
