FYI Downloaded and installed over v1.0.0.7 very quickly.
GUI took a little while to appear , but automatic scan ran quickly. Program change bubble did not link to the program indicated nor open "patched programs". XP was open when I checked , but had not shown in a yellow bubble , this time. The workd map can't find me at the moment - I think it used to . Not a problem.
Will check everything later , if/when I have some time.
Thanks :))
Take care.

FYI New program I downloaded showed the correct yellow bubble , but opened the end of life tab. I opened patched programs & the correct file was showing . I'm running XP SP3 ; but you still can't find me & I'm definitely here.

For some reason the last couple of versions of PSI have been showing Microsof Word Viewer as unsecure.
Can you give any info on this please.
Thanks

That's because there is a newer version aviable, run windows update.
This is the same case with the powerpoint viewer that comes with the
Micro$oft Office package. M$ doen't want to patch the older version
that comes with office 2007 and earlyer, they'll only patch te powerpoint
viewer if you have removed the powerpoint viewer and then reinstalled it
with the installer package that you can download for free, it then will
update with windows update.

In Secure Browsing, I have red X marks on Winamp 5.*. According to SA35126, there is a vulnerability in libsndfile.dll file. I have downloaded a new libsndfile.dll (1.0.20) from http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile and replaced existing one in winamp folder. Still, PSI is reporting Winamp as insecure.

I am having problems with false positives.
A Full System scan shows that Acrobat Reader is Insecure at an older version than what is installed. Rescanning the program clears the Insecure warning saying that it is patched. That is, until a new Full System scan incorrectly detects that older version of Acrobat Reader.

Did you try restarting your computer? Also, with adobe/acrobat et al I found downloading from the site works better.Just go to the acrobat page. When finished reopen secunia and run a scan.Try that.

Hi all, go in Adobe Acrobat/Acrobat reader in the Help menu and
click on check for updates, then close Acrobat or Acrobat reader.
A new window will apear, that window is the adobe update software and
requires that Acrobat or the acrobat reader it self is closed, not
running in the background.
This will update the Acrobat and it's reader.
Another solution is tho reinstall de reader with the package provided
by Adobe, with first uninstalling de older version of the reader.
I don't know if they also provide an recenter version of Adobe Acrobat.
Note that the newest version of the Acrobat reader is version 9.1.2.

Succes updating.

The new beta of PSI indicates Adobe Flash CS3 as insecure. No update is available from the vendor.

When I click the most right icon to go to the forum to see what other people said, an exception occurs 'object doesn't support this property or method'.

Also I have submitted a couple of apps not present in PSI yet. How do I know which will be added and it's status?

Cheers!

THere is probably a patch, but I guess it won't be released yet as adobe now has it's own 'patch tuesday' like microsoft.

If you are talking about the Adobe Reader 9.1 - this is how I fixed it on my computer. There were 2 patches released for 9.1: 9.1.1 and 9.1.2. The issue is that you can't just install 9.1.2 (even though Adobe's updater tries to do this). For some reason these patches are not cumulative.

1. If you have already installed 9.1.2 patch on top of 9.1 - deinstall Adobe Reader.
2. Install Adobe Reader 9.1
3. Download both 9.1.1 AND 9.1.2 updates from this page:
http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
4. Install 9.1.1 patch (AdbeRdrUpd911_all_incr.msp)
5. Install 9.1.2 patch (AdbeRdrUpd912_all_incr.msp)
6. Rescan Adobe Reader in PSI - this should now be detected as Patched.
7. To make it even more secure I personally recommend to turn JavaScript off in Adobe Reader.

Hi,
I guess I'm not as lucky as the others. I was running an earlier version of Secunia (1.0.0.4) and tried to update to the current beta. I keep getting the same message when I initiate the install:

"NSIS Error. Integrity check failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy."

I have tried downloading, saving and running the install and just runnning it directly. I have even completely removed the previous version and still get the same error message. I really like your program, so hope we can identify the problem. Any suggestions?

Phil Becker

Edit message: I jut checked and Windows Explorer shows that the size of the saved download is only 309 KB. Is that correct?

Thank you. The problem was I couldn't find a full 9.1.2 installer on the Adobe web site. All I see is 9.1 installer plus 9.1.1 and 9.1.2 patches. Will you be able to tell to other people reading this thread the way how to navigate to 9.1.2 installer?

No, this is not correct. The size of the latest beta installer (version 1.0.0.8) is 594,064 bytes. So the most likely cause of the errors you see is that your download did not finish completely. Please delete this exe file and retry (download the installer once again).

To install the latest version of PSI go to http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal... there is 2 choices to download l. v1.0.0.4 the latest stable version or 2. v1.0.0.8 Beta. Either way you don't have to uninstall your current version, just right click the PSI icon in sys tray & choose EXIT-then go to download link & Secunia will automatically uninstall/install the program--couldn't be easier-I wish every software vendor made it this easy--thanks Secunia.

Good luck & regards, wr

Edit: If you already have a copy of Secinia installed the above apply.

For Dmitryk ,

If you go here

http://www.adobe.com/

and then click on the Reader link , you come here

http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/?promoid=BUIGO

this will download the 9.1.2 installer/repairer - even if it is marked 910 .

I use the Flash , Air and Shockwave links/installers as well , rather than updating from within the folders.

The previous history of updating Reader 9.0 seems to have
lead to the concensus that :-

1) try the Reader help menu links about , update and repair first and
2) do a full resan and or reboot ; if this fails
3) do a "clean" uninstall rather than try a manual update - even though you have pointed up the confusion inherent in the the Adobe web page you refer to and sorted it - please note that this means getting rid of all the Reader files and that Add/Remove may not do this. PSI uses the "Annots.api" file in the"plug_ins"folder to identify the version you have installed.
4) Adobe does not always update all the files in your foder which seems to cause some of the failures in both the auto & the manual steps we would logically take.

I hope this clears things up a little better than my poor , earlier effort (one finger typist & all that trying to take shortcuts.)

Take care
Anthony.

PS: a"clean" uninstall should/does not require doing anything to the Registry - unless you are a real techie (unlike me) beware of going there.

If you have cleaned out the entire 9.0 folder & 8.0 is happy then the link I have given "shoulld" load 9.1.2 correctly - OK I've got my fingers crooxssed as itrype.

I don't think it's anything to do with the Beta.

Thank you Secunia PSI team! up and running, no issues noticed in past two days. v1.0.0.7 I reported a potential slow memory leak, after scan and minimize to tray >12hrs. This beta does not appear to have the same issue or at least my system no longer has an issue :)

Installed fast with no problems. I especially like the 'secure browsing' feature. It alerts me to unresolved problems. The 'Rating' allows me to see how serious the problem is and I can avoid using the insecure program.

Cheers!

When will someone from the Secunia team reply to my questions?

After having great difficulty installing Secunia Beta 1.0.0.7, giving up on iy in the finish. Then subsequently Beta 1.0.0.8 after some difficulty finally managed and 'it' is now working almost perfectly.

My only issue now is that it doesn't seem to be able to find me on the Map! - Nice little Extra that I find interesting...

BTW - I am also interested to know why my post note at left of this screen quotes my Secunia Score as being 99% when program tells me I am 100%?

Thank you for your reply.

The issue with Flash has already been resolved, which wasn't part of the problem though. The issue when clicking the icon was/is.

As for the software, I do not remember which I have submitted. There were some applications from canon and microsoft as well as some standalone. I had compared all software on my pc with all software located in the patched tab of psi and submitted all that were missing. Took me over an hour and I do not fancy doing this again :S
