Hello, I have a Secunia score of 100%, but I have some problems regarding the "secure browsing" new feature; e.g. the "askBar.dll" ActiveX control is listed as "insecure, but without solution" in both my browsers (Firefox 3.0.11 and IE8); your advisory section (SA26960) says I could set the kill-bit for the said ActiveX, but I don't know how to do this. Please help me.

Here U go:
Removing ActiveX

Below are two solutions I have copied from the Forum that do work.

Windows XP

launch command prompt from accessories in the programs list
type: cd c:\windows\downloaded program files
press enter
type: dir
press enter
find the correct file in the list
type: del <name of correct file without these braces>
press enter
type: exit
press enter

Vista
Open Start/Search
type "Command Prompt" into the search window
A Command Prompt icon will display
Right click on it
select "Run as administrator"
type: cd c:\windows\downloaded program files
press enter
type: dir
press enter
find the correct file in the list
type: del <name of correct file without these braces>
press enter
type: exit
press enter

Thank you, I followed your advice, but AskBar is still in the category "insecure browsing, but no solution" in PSI. Maybe I did something wrong. Anyway, because I have a score of 100% and I don't use the AskBar, I feel secure enough.

Emil,
No - sorry I gave U the wrong advice - having re read your first post it is a bit like IE8 - has a problem but no known fix to date.

If U do not use it then just delete it.

Try this link. After doing a scan and READING ALL!!!PERTINENT INFO. You will find the Ask toolbar simply check and hit the fix all button. Found a lot of items I thought had been removed.

@Maurice Joyce: F.Y.I. here is some interesting reading about IE only users. http://netsecurity.about.com/od/frequentlyaskedque... Maybe, I can get you to become a Firefox fan.

I too misread. If you want to keep it just create an ignore rule.
