PSI shows that I have the ask toolbar, which can't be patched; however, it doesn't show up through the programs in the control panel nor is it shown in my C: programs file. Does anyone have an idea how to find where it is possibly located and how do I get rid of it.

I do have IE8, but don't use it unless going to Windows Live. I went to IE8 and in the toolbars section it does show a "quick glimpse" option to check. However, nothing shows up.

I normally use Firefox. I also checked into the toolbar section and it doesn't have the ask toolbar with quick glimpse.

People, I'd recommend using this duplicate file finder - http://www.moleskinsoft.com/duplicate-file-finder-...
It can deal with unnecessary files on your hard drive. It has many functions, user-friendly interface, safety options and 100% efficiency.

I have a similar problem - under the 'secure browsing' tab, Secunia PSI 1.5 shows the Ask Toolbar under all my browsers (Chrome, Firefox, IE7, Opera, Safari). But it isn't visible in 'Add/Remove Programs' or as an add-in in Firefox. I have even tried installing it and then uninstalling it again (using Revo Uninstaller to make sure everything is gone).

How can I find where this Ask Toolbar is lurking? Or could it be a false detection by PSI?

@ pcgardner Rather surprised that Revo didn't clean-out the Ask toolbar. I wasn't aware of it's presence until I installed PSI v.1.5.0.0. It showed up in both my browsers, IE8 & FF. I immediately opened Revo & it uninstalled both instances. I didn't check to see where it was located, but I think it has an uninstaller. By using PSI in the Advance mode you should be able to track down the path to where it's located.

Regards, wr

Maybe you will find the Ask toolbar within the browser add-ons.
This is under Internet Settings >> Programs >> Add-Ons

Since this seems to be a sticky problem, I thught I'd post what worked for me.

I tried various uninstallers without finding this little beast.

I looked in program files and found the askbardis folder. Surprisingly enough, it included an uninstall function which removed it in a snap.

I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out how to uninstall Ask out of my browser. I tried all the ways listed except for installing programs on my computer. What worked was I went into Tools on my web browser, clicked Internet Options, In the General tab, next to Change search defaults I clicked Settings, I selected a different provider, clicked Set Default, I clicked on Ask then clicked remove. It was easy as pie
