I just completed doing Windows Update and installing everything they recommended EXCEPT MS Internet Explorer 8. Still with MSIE 7. After the reboot, Secunia PSI pops up and once again says my Windows XP Pro SP3 is "insecure". Unfortunately, no specifics (e.g. "KB 999999 is not installed.") So I broke down and did a re-scan. Since it involved the OS, it had to be a full system scan which took 30 minutes . If I was given the given discrepancy, I could verify that I downloaded and installed and wait for the next scheduled system scan next week.

Same thing happened to me recently, but I got lucky and it disappeared just as suddenly. MSIE7 has more security issues than MSIE8, but that does nothing to explain why we Both got the "insecure" message.
Welcome to the twilight zone. Good luck.

Thanks for the link to the other thread. I'll try a full re-scan on my Acer tommorow. I've had the weirdest time lately with my computers having different problems using the same software (it isn't hardware related as far as I can tell).

thanks again;
Fred

PS; My Acer runs XP Home & shows insecure, the HP has Pro and it's OK!

XP Pro SP3 all patches shows insecure.
I am running IE6, wonder if that's the reason?
No detail message I can find, and I am *NOT* going to upgrade.
Not when 1/3 of the screen will be taken over by useless trashy icons and buttons.

Hi Joe;

I don't want to give you a hard time about it, but you really should update your browser to something newer than IE6. It is chock full of security holes. I can tell you from personal experiance, it's much eaiser to keep junk off your system than get rid of it after the fact!

I have friends who recommend Firefox very highly. I don't have an opinion of my own, other than I agree with you, IE7 & IE8 are cluttered. I use the browser to get somewhere on the web, not to play around on the way there.

By the way IE8 is just IE7 rehashed. It is full of MS hype & spyware. Just so you know, "Bill", I shut off all the little goodies that tell you what I look at!

Be safe, my friend;
Fred
