I've run the 9.1.3 patch for Adobe Acrobat several times, ran a repair, and have restarted my system. After a couple full scans and specific re-scans of Acrobat, Acrobat is still reported as insecure. When I open up Acrobat, the about screen says that it is version 9.1.3.
When I browse out to the file that is being reported (C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe) and check its properties, Windows report that the file version is actually 9.1.0.2009022700, so I'm guessing that the files that Secunia uses to check the version of the software may not have been updated.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? |

Yes - identical problem with Adobe Reader this morning. Just ran a scan with FileHippo's Update Checker and - guess what? - it's not showing on that scan.
A couple of days ago had the same problem with Adobe Flash player and had to uninstall all the applications and download again. It seems to have solved the problem so I am considering doing the same with Adobe Reader.
Is the problem with PSI or Adober?

Yes; I've had the same experience, as well - ran the Adobe Reader Updater, updating to 9.1.3 the day of release (1 AUG). PSI insists that the version installed is 9.1.2.82 (the immediate previous patch of 10 JUN).
Interestingly, CCleaner's Uninstall feature does indeed detect the correct version. |

Note that after the update to version 9.1.3, the AcroRd32.dll still has version 9.1.2.82. This suggests that the AcroRd.dll was not updated for version 9.1.3. The only file with a date later than 5/22/09 (version 9.1.2) in the "Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader" directory is the "authplay.dll" file with a date of 7/22/09 and a version of 9.0.246.0.
Hope this helps ... |

Revo Uninstaller also detects the correct Version 9.1.3,
I think it's a Problem with the PSI Detection. |

"The detected version installed on your system is 9.0.246.0, however, the latest patched version released by the vendor, fixing one or more vulnerabilities, is 9.0.246.0".
I also get the above message that is obviously in error. When I check "about Adobe Reader" on the reader itself it tells me I have version 9.1.3.
I think it is best to use the filehippo.com update checker. This problem has been showing up on my computer several days and Secunia has yet to fix it. |

As a source for a second opinion, one might also look at a [free] application called 'Update Notifier' (http://cleansofts.org/). Though by no means perfect, it often informs of new updates before the PSI does. |

Hi AJAverett,
This is not a flame-but I hope you're not confusing the intent of the Secunia PSI. The PSI is not an updater, rather it scans & notifies of insecurities & not updates regarding bug fixes, cosmetic changes, etc. In other words you might not have the latest version of a program provided by the vendor but the older version may be as secure as the newer version-hence no need to update just because of a cosmetic change, etc. Also as I understand it, the updaters may not always 'catch' the latest security update.

Yes, well as an original beta tester of the PSI, hopefully not; evidently, my economy of words allowed for a different inference.
One would hope that those who post here can discern between a mere cosmetic (or even functional) update and those related to system security. When notified that there are updates to virtually anything from Adobe, for example, one ought to realize that they're almost always going to be security enhancements - not for creating eye candy.
The last updates to Adobe Flash and Air were caught by Update Notifier two full days before PSI (as was also the case with the latest update to the Java RTE - which even Sun's Automatic Updater wasn't detecting). There are other such examples, and some might appreciate being informed in a more timely fashion.
Regards,
AJ |

Hi AJ & wr ,
I had OSI (still keep their Email advisor) & have had PSI from it's outset . Last year I found Adobe Flash V 10 was out & not picked up by Secunia , they quickly replied to my Email that v 9 was up to date security wise ; about 3 days later Secunia updated . OSI reported it before PSI.
I now have my 2nd opinions of FileHippo (sees 30 progs) , Update Notifier (50 progs) & PSI is still here with +/- 104 progs - all thre do not show everything .
I am totally "non-techie" & I believe many people come to the Forum new(ish) to updating v/v PSI has a "simple"** & "advandced" to reach all levels. A lot of the latest Flash problems seem to be .ocx related perhaps due to PSI (or something else like a Messenger pprog.) not being exited before running the installer ; & possibly PSI trying to use IE to load the ActiveX installer when Firefox is the default (& Ff can load the AX).
A lot of the differences between a Security fix & bugs/candy fixes are not clear - certainly not to me , but I'm improving - as in Jaava u14 suddenly showed as patched in secure browsing by PSI yesterday . I have patched to u15 as Java tell me that some bug fixes which are security related ( I had to dig to find the changelog & happened to have the time as now ).
A lot of people are scared to join Forums & this is a "Community" forum one of the few I use , because it lets everybody have their say . I enjoy that , even if I'm guilty also of to many shortcuts.
Take care , we need all the help on offer.
Anthony
**the "simple" version tells you you may need help for more "complcated" downloads -Ah ! that seems to show up in the window you "OK" to change versions & is repeated in the"settings" tab . |

Hello Anthony,
Thanks for your comments, points well taken.
An e-mail from Secunia this morning in reply to mine states that the problem detecting the correct (updated) version of Adobe Reader has been resolved.
That no one scanner is a complete solution, I was remiss in not mentioning another very useful scanning tool: the Belarc Advisor < http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html >.
In addition to finding required patches that have escaped detection through Microsoft Update, it will also flag patches which Microsoft Update detects as being installed on the system - but are not functioning, and assists you in downloading any that should need to be reinstalled (which should be followed, of course, with a rescan). The downside to Belarc Advisor is that it provides an overwhelming (even intimidating) amount of information. Still, it's a useful addition to every utility arsenal.
Regards,
AJ |

Hello AJ ,
I do have Belarc & use it each month , after MS patch Tuesday. I also print it out & add a copy to each of my "back up" systems - no idea if I need to , but that's me . I have tried Shavlik but I prefer PSI & am shorts & "t" rather than belt & braces.
Thanks for the head's up anyway , from my point the learning curve goes straight up.

Hi,
I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended 9.1.3 installed.
When I do a full scan it appears as unsafe version 9.0.39.0. When I rescan it is cleared and declared safe as version 9.0.246.0
When I do a full scan again, the game is at the beginning again.
I consider this inconsistent, please update PSI.
kind regards, Martin |

Have you tried running down where the files are located(other than those who have) or secondly, are you running multiple browsers. If so try downloading to each browser. They may each require a plug-in. I am not sure but I think this is the first time that Adobe has used a platform application install. i.e. you have to have 9.9 to 9.10 to 9.11 to 9.12 to 9.13 installed consecutively for it to register correctly. Be sure that the security functions (for each browser) are allowing the download without corrupting the file. If I remember, I had to remove a file Adb 32 from one if the files Hope this helps

I had a very similar problem. I have Adobe Acrobat that displays as version 9.1.3 but Secunia reports it as 9.0.37 no matter how many times I have patched it. |

Just replied that I have same problem (Secunia reports v. 9.0.37 for Adobe Acrobat which displays v. 9.1.3). However, Adobe Acrobat usually cannot be closed except by going to Task Manager. Does anybody else have this problem with Acrobat? Is this a quirk or something potentially serious? |

Apology to all - This was mistakenly posted against this Acrobat thread - ought to be in the thread on (approx.), Adobe Reader 9.1.3 detected as 9.1.0.163 ...
So, I, the author, have deleted it from this thread and contributed it over in that thread.
Sincerely,

@FallingRock ,
The data you detail is much the same as mine & I consider that I have version 9.1.3 fully patched.
This is further detailed on this thread ;-
http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/240...
and others.
V9.0.246.0 refers to the "authplay.dll" file which patched v9.1.2 to v9.1.3. |
