I have had PSI installed for over a month. The program has a Forum button at the top of ths screen, which leads to a second page where there is a link to this location.

From the beginning until now, any time I tried to follow the link, I get an error message that says, "An error occurred while attempting to open the specified URL." I presume that at least some users can click on the link and come directly here, rather than getting the error message.

Does the Forum link apply to only some users? If not, is there a fix that I can use to get proper use from the link?

I use Windows Vista Home Premium and Internet Explorer 8.

Thank you

Hi milesr;

You are getting on this forum using secunia.com, correct?

If that is the case, my guess is that your firewall is blocking the link from PSI. See instructions from the firewall vendor on how to unblock that url.

Or, possibly IE8 is blocking you. In that case, in IE8; select Tools tab on the tool bar, click on Internet Options, select the Secutity tab, click on Trusted Sites, click on Sites, at "Add this website to the zone" enter https://secunia.com, click on Add.

There could possibly be something else, but I can't imagine what that would be. Hope I've been some help.

I apologize for not responding soon enough. I am new to the Forum, not real fast in applying solutions and probably should have started my thread at a time when it was almost bedtime and when I was planning to go to church the next day.

So far, I have been unable to learn what my firewall is blocking and why. (I found a listing of programs, none of which seem to apply to Secunia. A checked box or an empty box comes before each program.

I did add https://secunia.com to the Trusted Sites but realized no success.

Hi milesr,

You're on the right track to connectivity to Secunia servers, here's how:
The following steps are the latest version I know of to ensure connectivity to Secunias servers:

Secunia PSI needs to be able to connect to Secunia servers to complete its scanning. However, if you have configured
the security settings of your Internet Explorer, the Secunia PSI may be prevented from getting the scan results. To receive
your scan results, you need to do some changes to your Internet options.
To do this:
a. Open Internet Explorer.
b. Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security tab.
c. Select the Internet zone and click on the Custom Level button.
d. In Security Settings, go to the Scripting>Active Scripting option.
e. Make sure that Active Scripting is Enabled (rather than Disabled or Prompted).
f. Press OK then Yes.
g. Back in the Security tab, select the Trusted sites zone and click on the Sites button.
h. Look at the bottom of the page and take the tick from the box marked"Require server verification(HTTPS)for all site zones" then type in the following and press the Add button to add them to the Trusted Zone Sites list:
http://*.secunia.com
https://*.secunia.com
i. Press Close
j. Run the Secunia PSI again to view the scan results

If using a browser other than IE the settings can be accessed by clicking Start-Control Panel-Internet Options-then follow c thru j

I know the directions start by saying for scanning but I believe these directions are valid to insure connectivity to the Secunia servers.

Regards, wr

Thank you very much, wr.

When I reached Step #e, I found Active Scripting was already enabled. So I returned to the Trusted Zones area.

I removed the tick from the box that required server verification for all zone sites, with no problem.

But when I tried to add the two addresses into the trusted zones area, the system would not accept them.

If the two addresses were edited in some manner, the system might accept them. All examples of an acceptable address contained a double bar which is not in either Secunia address that I tried to add.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. I believe this is the right track.

Thanks milser,

You're right, the double slash needs to be in the address you type in. Thanks again for catching my error-I'll Edit this mistake immediatly. Thanks again.

Regard, wr

PS Should have proof-read a little closer

My system accepted the Secunia addressas as we amended them and I was certain that my problem was solved. I "just knew" the solutions would work.

I DO NOT WANT TO MISLEAD ANYONE. When I went to the program and tried to follow the link to the Forum, I received the same message that I have consistently received.

I told you that I am new to the Forum. I mistakenly "counted my chickens before they were hatched."

I apologize. And are there other possible solutions to the problem?

Hi milesr,
The only other thing I can think of is 1.Your firewall settings or 2. One of your add-ons(highly unlikely but possible). I personally would try the firewall settings first.

I was added Secunia to the programs not to be blocked by the firewall. Result was the same. So I went in and temporarily turned the firewall completely off and, once again, I received the message I have consistently received.

I have other issues, and since I am able to reach the Forum via my Internet Explorer and a Favorite listing, lets allow this issue to expire.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYBODY'S HELP.

Is there anything I should do to formally eliminate this thread, later today?

I reopened this thread because, earlier today, I installed Firefox and made it my default browser. When I tried to reach the Forum in the manner I had been using, Secunia would not accept my user name and/or my password.

The question I HAD was "if I use a new browser, do I need a new user name and a new password?

But that question was made moot when I clicked on the Forum link in the program, and came directly to the Forum. Now, the link from the program DOES work.

Thank you to Maurice and others who have helped me.

Congratulations milesr;

I am glad your problem is resolved. The original problem was not fixed, but what matters is you can do what you wanted, reach the forum.

The reason I quit responding was that wr is very knowlegable and when he offered to help I did not want to confuse you.

I hope you will continue to find helpful solutions to your questions here and soon you will be able to help us too.

Good luck with all your endeavors;
Fred
