The above two forums address this problem in some detail: the final solution is that if you are running Vista it is not needed at all as it is an outdated dll from Xp.
Here is the meat::
O.k. period (BINGO) that's it. Problem solved. msxml6.0 is for XP(PERIOD) and is re-numbered in Vista under msxml4.0 SP2 (KB954430)for Vista Obtained by reading down to what others are downloading. Therefore, why I am not having any problem by having deleting it. Microsoft then via automatic updating replaced it with msxml4.0 SP2 (KB954430) I cross referenced it with forum msxml6.0
This is how to locate the file ::

To locate the exact file that the Secunia PSI has detected, please follow there guidelines using the
advanced interface:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
* Click on the entry of the programme to “expand” it.
* Click on Technical details to see the installation path of the detected file.
* Remember the installation path and close down the menu.
* Click Open Folder and locate the detected file.

Have U changed the folder option to show all hidden files?

Have U tried Windows search asking it to search hidden files?

Hi puget1,

the links are not working at this moment...
Secunia Community
A technical error occurred. Our technical team has been informed.
************************************
but, even without the links I was able to grasp from your post enough to make some sense out of the crazy PSI results from last week.
So, 6 is XP and 4 is Vista. Wow!!
That explains why one day I had all these Insecure 6 and the next day they were gone.
I run Vista.
I have all the MSXML 4 updates. So, 4 is Secure. The PSI database must have had a gremlin.

One day all Secure and next day a slew of Insecure Visual C++ and XML...then next day all back Secure.

Maurice Joyce writes MSXML 4 SP2 needs SP3
RE: Microsoft XML Core service (msxml)4.x - insecure ?

1. MSXML 4 is a standalone version that supports legacy 3rd party installs.
2. Microsoft have released the final SP prior to it becoming obsolete on 13 April 2010.

Your problem should be resolved if you uninstall all versions of MSXML 4 SP2 - reboot - and then install MSXML 4 SP3 which is a complete replacement for SP2 & the various hot fixes.

As for any new install read the Release Notes here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/2/D/A2D85...%20SP3%20RTM%20Rel ease%20Note.htm

The download link is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...
The download file to select is MSXML.MSI 2.3MB

Secunia picks it up as secure with version 4.30.2100.0

Comments Please ?

With me it was Ad-Aware once it updated it cleared my p.c.. So you may have to clear out/some old files and deleted programs (from registry and various partitions).. Remember Secunia is trying t deal with two OS's and a third coming WINDOWS 7 is coming, that means a lot of confusion with Secunia alerts as to what OS actually is being applied. I am hoping they will give us tabs to click for each OS and have made that suggestion to Secunia. P.S. don't forget the part about the difference between 32bit and 64bit

Hi
I just reviewed the System Requirements for MSXML from the vendor site.

MSXML 4.X Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows 98; Windows ME; Windows NT; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP
MSXML 6.X Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2
I run Vista...
MSXML SP3 Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows Vista Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2; Windows XP Service Pack 3
So, how I got 4.X and 6.X on my Vista system is over my pay grade unless as you offer from third party install. But, 4.X must be OEM install based on date. 6.X is not listed with Programs but is reported by PSI.
Have no idea what MSXML does and if deleting 4.X and/or 6.X will cause unknown issue as MSXML SP2 was OEM install based on date.
Granted MSXML SP3 is Vista supported. Not sure is MSXML is complete replacement for 4.X and 6.X and will work for what ever the OEM application is that needs 4.X/6.X

Thanks for your comments...I need to be sure my ship won't sink if I disrupt the status quoe.
I agree, Maurice Joyce is the next best thing to having a relative employed with Secunia.
