I'm allowed to move it to the recycle bin, but about 5 seconds later, it reappears in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe
Since I use WMP 11, I find no use for having this straggler file hang around. It's not showing as insecure, but it isn't a necessary file either. I also showed an mplay2.exe file representing WMP 6x but I was able to completely delete it. |

Try deleting mplayer via. add/remove.

although the wmp 5x shows in Secunia's patched program list, it is not among the Add/Remove programs list to choose from. |

I would be "very careful" at removing media player as in most cases it might be directly tied into O/S itself. Especially with newer systems. Have you verified that this is a recommended procedure. It could very well be a great way of gaining a very expensive paper weight. Google an answer about this action. Here is a link on the subject

I would heed @Puget1's sound advice.
There are legacy issues with Wmp - delete them at your peril.

You can make it go away from the Add/Remove windows features I believe.
