Hi When I choose to download updated files from the handy link in the PSI GUI, PSI opens Firefox instead of the default browser: I.E.8 Can the program be configured to use the default browser? If another user is on they receive the Firefox 'binary file' warning which of course befuddles them and which is not necessary. It also opens Firefox for the forum instead of I.E.8 My system is Vista Ultimate 32bit. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks |

There was a long and drawn out forum from everything from admin privileges to htkeys and the last I saw no conclusions were resolved. My take on this: that it may have something to do with the new "secure browsing" feature of Secunia. In order to gain access to the various browsers Secunia must be able to place long term cookies and have access to scripts. It is listed in whitepage of noscripts. I am having a doubter of this http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/277... and I opened a forum about how to insert screenshots into psi forums. I realize that this is a quesstimation but poss. answer. I know that Maone @ maone.net uses Secunia. Here is the original forum: http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/219... -- |

@Jhertel offers some workaround advice about halfway through the original thread ; it requires some technical expertise. -- It always seems impossible until its done. Nelson Mandela |

It's the "Administrator" users default browser that's used. Since the software is intended to be run as "Administrator". This account is on every Winblows system. Even if you create other accounts. -- Assorted Fnords. |

I've never used Firefox with the Admin account. I.E. has always been the default browser. I only used Firefox to test how a website displayed. The easiest solution seems to be to uninstall FF. Especially as I do not use it any more. |

Not the "Admin" account I suppose you created. The WinBlows, build-in "Administrator" account that never goes away, even if you create other admins. It's frequently not listed, but it's still there. -- Assorted Fnords. |

In the original forum tread (noted above) jhertel gives his workaround in his July 29th posting(s) . Some of the entries seem to be slightly variable , depending on your OS , so read all the posts. -- It always seems impossible until its done. Nelson Mandela |

Yes - I was referring to the Administrator account and not my own or other account that has administrative privileges. I'm not going to muck about with those settings - If Secunia got it right in the first place, there would be no need for this. Other apps installed on my PC always use I.E. when needed. However, now that FF has been uninstalled, the question becomes academic. Let's hope that Secunia fix this for other users. |

I would suspect there should be a similar way for Firefox, Chrome, etc. I had recently done a fresh install of Opera 10.0 and still had 9.64 installed, which PSI insisted on using. Uninstalling PSI and even deleting my profile did not help. Under Opera preferences there is a setting for Protocols Handled by Opera (Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs > Details) with checkboxes for HTTP and HTTPS. I unchecked those in 9.64 and then checked them under 10.0, and PSI used the correct default browser after that. [Please excuse the duplicate post. I didn't know which was the best thread to place it under. The most relevant one seemed to be quite old.] |
