I've migrated to Windows 7 (build 7600). Secunia is reporting that msxml4.dll is insecure, detecting version 4.10.9404.0, located in C:\Windows\System32\msxml4.dll.

Windows Update reports my system is current.

There is no copy of msxml4.dll in System32. There are two copies on my system, one in SysWOW64 and another in winsxs/x86_<string on letters and numbers>. Both versions are 4.10.9404.0, apparently insecure.

Neither is updated by Windows Update.

Is this a problem with PSI and Windows 7 ? Is this issue safe to ignore (as to the latter, I'm not sure I have a lot of choice).

It is not a problem with PSI. They only read that data on your PC and match it to their database.

The secure version of msxml4.dll is 4.30.2100.0 dated 22/1/2009.

I have not tested Windows 7 but my fix that works for XP & Vista is as follows:

1. MSXML 4 is a standalone version that supports legacy 3rd party installs.
2. Microsoft have released the final SP prior to it becoming obsolete on 13 April 2010.

Your problem should be resolved if you uninstall all versions of MSXML 4 SP2 - reboot - and then install MSXML 4 SP3 which is a complete replacement for SP2 & the various hot fixes.

As for any new install read the Release Notes here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/2/D/A2D85...

The download link is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa...
The download file to select is MSXML.MSI 2.3MB

Secunia picks it up as secure with version 4.30.2100.0

HI, currently Secunia PSI does not support WIN 7-http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal... therefore you may get conflicting reports when the PSI scans your system. In very few instances I have noticed here on the Forum that the PSI does seem to be compatible with WIN 7.

Regards, wr

EDIT: Sorry Maurice, I was typing as you were posting-carry on & have a nice day.

Thank you, gentlemen. I manually replaced the files in both locations and the vulnerability has not been patched.

Try renaming by inserting _OLD at the end of each file.
