I have just upgraded to IE8 from IE7 because i was getting warnings from Secunia Scan that the browser was insecure "status shown ""Insecure No Solution".Having upgraded i am now getting same result for IE8. Results now show "Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.x ( Assessment: Not Secure For Browsing Minimum 2 Critical Attack Vectors Exist When Using This Browser)
Excuse my ignorance but does this mean i should avoid using IE8 at all costs or is there a solution i can use, can anyone help.
Terry

Terry,
No - this "insecurity" has been around for a long time. I only use IE8.

With proper security protection, safe surfing habits & making sure your OS is up to date via Microsoft Update will further negate the issue and should not spoil your enjoyment of using your PC.

I am doubtful MS will ever patch it. It will be interesting to see when they release Windows 7 on 22nd because I believe IE8 is embedded in the US version.

Last edited on 15th Oct, 2009 19:48 I wonder why PSI forces IE8 into Protected Mode: Off when I am here and
Protected Mode: On when I start IE8 without being in PSI?

Maybe I have to make PSI not start with Windows then go to Start then make Secunia PSI Run as administrator.

Edit: It is still running with Protected Mode: Off

I have only one attack vector existing which is covered by SA24314. If you have two attact vectors existing you may be able to do something about the second.

I guess you have the one mentioned above which is the one where there is no solution, I then have 15 other potential problems which have been patched. There may be a patch for the second one you have if so it would at least cover that threat for you.

Perhaps you would like to list the second vector on here, I will probably not be too helpful with it but I'm sure somebody like Maurice or wr (don't remember his full profile name) will be able to.

YoKenny, I'm not an expert, but I can tell you that this is happenning because Secunia PSI is included among your trusted (or secure) sites.

Terry I just recently posted a comment regarding Insecure Browsing. I was using Internet Explorer 6 and have had no issues with this browser. Secunia has never flagged this as insecure. Strange how 7 and 8 which are suppose to be more secure show differently. Anyways just thought I would pass this on to you. Hopefully someone can explain this.

So what causes IE8 to have scripting errors and other popup messages ALL the time?? I have gone to using Firefox or Chrome (Chrome crashed a lot). Someone told me uninstall IE8 and go back to IE7, but I don't think that's possible, although I would LOVE to. I am on Vista Home and a computer that's only nine months old. Is there any way I can shut off all those irritating script error and other messages? They don't seem to do anything but tick me off...

Hi twinsgrammy;

Other than a request to download an ActiveX or other program (intentional), I seldom have any security warnings. I've never had a scripting error. I don't use any of IE8s "built in" security features if they can be turned off. I prefer to use 3rd party software. It does annoy me by trying to add MS items to my favorites. I am running XP, don't know if that matters.

BTW, your posting to an older thread that may not be monitored by those who started this conversation. To get a better response, you may start a new thread of your own. Put something discriptive in the topic header like: Why does IE8 give so many security alerts?

regards;

Fred
