On my computer with WinXP SP3, fully updated, I ran Secunia PSI; and it showed everything as being up to date. I then ran Filehippo's update checker, and it showed Adobe Air as being out of date. Apparently, I have version 1.5.2.8870, and the "new" version (dated about a year ago) is 1.5.2.8900. Should I update to the new version? If so, why doesn't Secunia PSI show that need?

Thank you!

Jo-Anne

8870 was released on 31/7/2009. 8900 on the 21/10/2009 according to FileHippo.

Secunia is a vulnerability checker not a general updater.

Secunia is saying 8870 is secure.

If U want the benefits of the 8900 release which must contain bug fixes or cosmetic enhancements U should install it.

Thank you, Maurice! I guess it's only the installation program that's dated last year. I'm so used to Adobe products being unsecure that I assume any update is for security reasons.

I wonder, though, if the update should be reported to Secunia, just in case. I tried to do that yesterday, but I couldn't figure out how to get to the file to put it in the report--and last time I tried to report something to Secunia, it was rejected because I didn't fill in the program filename and path.

No point really. Secunia keeps an eye out for us - as I stated before they report on the last secure version so in theory could be "out of date" because the latest version could be a bug fix, cosmetic changes or in Beta form which they are not really interested in.
