Secunia notification said I had two programs that needed updating, namely: Sun Java JRE 1.6x/6.x (64 bit)

Yesterday I clicked on JRE 1.6x/6.6.x (64 bit)to update. (I have a HP Vista Home Premium - dual core 64 bit computer). I wasn't offered the chance to do the second update. Today I recanned and Secunia showed no insecured programs.
Before updating the Control Panel showed: JAVA (TM) 6 Update 15 (64 bit)
and JAVA (TM) 6 Update 16.
Control Panel now shows: JAVA (TM) 6 Update 15 (64 bit)
JAVA (TM) 6 Update 17
Question: Why didn't the JAVA (TM) 6 Update 15 (64 bit) update but the other one did?
Questions: Do I need JAVA (TM) 6 Update 17?
If I do not need Update 17, do I uninstall it from the
ADD/REMOVE in Control Panel?
Is there an update for the JAVA (TM) 6 Update 15 (64 bit)?
I hope the above info. isn't too confusing but would like to know what to do to make sure everything is updated and to make sure that I have only what I need. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Newby
