Why does Secunia tell me Vista is a Cat 4 threat, then when I click the "solution button" it invokes Windows update, then Windows update tells me I am all up to date ? The "threat assesment" remains ?

Evening ! Welcome ! As you're a new user, is it right to presume that you are not yet switched to the Advanced mode ? If you move to Advanced you should be able to glean more info. It's not too difficult.
When the insecurity is detected, you will notice a + sign alongside : click on that, and the entry will expand. You should then find various details including the file path. If you come back to the forum with your findings, someone should be able to help you further.

I to have this issue and have clicked the plus sign to get more information but there is none. It just says N/A (not applicable) for the installation path.
I noted in my own post on this problem that clicking on 'download solution' opens up Windows Update V4 rather than the expected Windows Update V6 version my desktop Windows Update takes me to but neither find any updates to be installed in any case. I also noted that I am using the 64bit version of Vista but don't know if this is relevant to the problem or not.

hi

Do you see Microsoft Windows Vista in the "Insecure" tab or "Patched" tab of the psi Advanced mode?

I got the same cat4 Vista threat. the latest MS updates were only fully installed on reboot so my system needed just a restart for the cat 4 to be removed on rescanning PSI.

I received the follwing Vista updates this week:

1. Vista update KB971737
2. Vista update KB970430
3. Vista update KB973917
4. Vista Security update KB974318

Strangely all the updates received this month were downloaded and installed twice and the history shows that they were successfully installed twice. Never had this happen before.

There was also an update for IE8 for Vista KB976325

The threat was real that Secunia informed you of. This was corrected by the MS update(1st-01/22/10 and 2nd one-26/01/10. Keep your updates set on automatic and MS will download every Tue.
As for still showing it as vulnerable, a system reboot should correct this. If you are new to the forum, when you have a free moment or two :),read some of the previous ??s. Most problems are repetitious and have been addressed. It is an excellent way to learn the program and increase your know how. Any member will gladly assist if you have a problem and the two? secunia reps.are there when needed.
