Secunia reports possible security threat to Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.32.18 (ActiveX). Update version 10.0.42.34 installed and Secunia re-scanned several times and PC re-started but not detected by Secunia.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Chris

Last edited on 21st Dec, 2009 15:41 Enable ADVANCED mode in PSI then select Insecure then Insecure Programs then look in Toolbox for Download solution.

The bad file detected should be in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

The good file should be Flash10d.ocx

Hi. Once you uninstall Flash Player and reboot, the Flash10C.ocx file will be removed which is causing your problem. Then install Flash Player for Internet Explorer and for Firefox (if you have Firefox). The way I did it which worked fine was I uninstalled Flash Player using the Flash Player Uninstaller. I then installed Flash Player for Internet Explorer and for Firefox. Then I rebooted and all was well.(Flash10c.ocx) was removed.

Unfortunately not for me. I dont't understand, why PSI shows "Insecure Programs Version Detected Adobe Flash Player 10.x 10.0.32.18 (ActiveX)" and this Adobe site http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ "You have version 10,0,42,34 installed".

The contents of my Flash folder:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\ ------- 1 8 8. 593.210 8.593.210
Flash10c.ocx ocx 3.979.680 18.07.2009 04:12
flashplayer.xpt xpt 856 28.10.2009 04:25
FlashUtil10c.exe exe 257.440 18.07.2009 04:12
install.log log 38.560 11.12.2009 11:42
NPSWF32.dll dll 3.885.984 28.10.2009 04:40
NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe exe 257.440 28.10.2009 04:40
uninstall_activeX.exe exe 88.589 14.08.2009 11:07
uninstall_plugin.exe exe 84.661 11.12.2009 11:42
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerTrus t\ ------- 0 1 73 73

I learned that uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Flash Player could help. I would like to understand, why Adobe and PSI show different versions.

Thanks in advance,

Anselm

Anselm, that is because you have the full Abobe or Adobe Air package installed.

Did you run uninstall_flash_player.exe with all browser sessions closed?
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Did you reboot to let the locked files be removed?

The updated Adobe Flash Player file is C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash10d.ocx

Remove the old Flash10c.ocx if the un-unstall program does not remove it.

Hi! I did what you told me and everything is ok now. But it means, that every time PSI reports an unsecure version of Adobe Flash Player I have to run uninstall_flash_player.exe? I know a lot of software easier to update ...

Thank you,

Anselm

I Don't uninstall my software if the threat level is a 4 or 5 as many times I've found that companies are not on the ball about getting patches out. Even a level 5 really depends on the possibility of someone actually hacking in. I've found that as long as I'm NOT logged in as the administrator, it provides me with yet another line of protection between me and them.

Hear, hear. Curious about this one myself; had the same version(s) you listed, all updated (supposedly, anyway) so I don't exactly get why the Adobe flash updater does not remove the old version during the so-called update - why does it install a new version of flash and does not clean up after itself (remove the old version)? Looks like Adobe dropped the ball on this one, not PSI. And, no, I do not have any "full" version of Adobe (their software is too damn expensive for my needs; I even use Foxit reader instead of Acro-reader, way better and not a bloatware).

The current Flash 10 installers contain an "uninstaller" , you simply need to make sure that Flash is not running in any programme :eg: PSI or MSN Messenger : before running the new "installer" .

The problem is discussed in this post :-
