I use Norton. No problems at all, as far as I can tell. I've just bought a laptop - that has Norton 360 so it will be interesting to compare.
I predict you won't get a response in favour of just one product though! Good luck!

I've only ever used McAfee....no problems whatsoever.
Everybody has their own favourite/preferences...they needn't conflict, but from what I've read, they often do.
Freebie installations worth considering might be the new AVG coupled with Threatfire. I put it on my son in law's pc; no troubles.

I have used Kaspersky for 3 years and have found it to be excellent. Not only is the software excellent but the Kaspersky forum is the best I have used in 20+ years of professional involvement in IT. I have never waited more than an hour or so for a complete answer/solution to any problem.

i have been using so many avatars of the paid versions of the norton internet security on my machine(s)uninterruptedly for the past four years; at present the latest version is there on my new machine, viz., dell inspiron 545s desktop(with win7 home premium, intel 2 core duo processore7500 2.93ghz1066sb,3mb) but i am not fully satisfied with its protective capability since i continue to get so many error messages on web pages; i wish switch over to some other program at the end of my current subscription in 06/10. can any one offer some useful suggestion in this regard?

This is the second time Grace100 has posted here a link to the same site ; here is the other thread/post :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/311...

As I said in the linked thread/post , the site you are bieng linked to

Anti-Virus4U.com

does not show up on any site advisor I have access to (7 in total) ; plus it is offering mouthwatering reductions on A/V software . I am starting to smell spam or maybe worse .

Correct me if I'm wrong .

Take care
Anthony

Avira has come in as the top ranked AV by the best testing labs in 2009.
Avast always does well (usually comes in the top 3). It has a few more features over Avira. Both have produced some false positives, but overall they do get great results in comparison to the others on your list. Norton came in 1st in the December 2009 tests for AV. Just be aware that these labs test more than just virus and spyware hits. They also test performance, features, malware, adware, false positives and support.

Be aware that Norton 360 (vs Norton AV only) comes as a integrated suite of products, so testing on just AV does not take this into account.

You left out Microsoft Security Essentials (free) and it has done well in the latest tests. It is fast and is not a resource hog. NB: According to MS, no third party firewall will run with it, though I have read on other forums that it can. You wll need to enable MS firewall for an 'integrated' solution. MS answers the unanswerable FW questions for you (good if you are not a FW enthusiast).

I have Norton 360 V3 running on 2 systems (XP and Vista) and when my sub runs out I will be installing Avast. My W7 system has been running MS Security Essentials and I am happy so far. NB: The scans take a long time to complete.

Overall, Norton 360 V3.5 is an excellent product and I have been very happy with it. Norton is not the resource hog it used to be. It has its own firewall that does not ask me a slew of unanswerable questions...nor did I have to configure anything. Very user friendly. Downside: has lots of tenticals that dig deep down into your system...removing it can be a most disagreeable task, even using their removal software.

Should Secunia themselves be able to verify the authenticity of a link, by having checked it out themselves before publishing ? It might slow some things down?

MOGS ,

The site claims to be a world leading supplier ofA/V software , but is very difficult to check out .

It has a clause on warranties that says there are none .

Caveat emptor.

Thanks Anthony ! Your posts have raised more awareness. I will be much more wary of making any reply to a product-only enquiry, in future. Perhaps we ought to introduce a kind of "street cred rating" for posts, as I've seen used elsewhere ?

I have to ditto you post 100% KIS is without doubt the easiest on system memory, I had extremely good luck with it. That being said after a ton of research and wanting to try Microsoft Security Essentials I jumped ship! MSE is equally a s fast and is also very light on system resources, with the exception of KIS most all others in the list above take their toll on. That is not much of an issue on a hot machine with a fast processor and a lot of ram but for the average system they to coin an old phrase "Are a Drag" and should not be on any low power machines. If you are smart you will dig into not only scan but load and full time monitoring speeds, if you fail to do your homework you may very well end up being a very unhappy camper!

I agree - this Forum to help people clear vulnerabilities not request direct information about programmes or telephones.

By doing that it is indeed SPAM & I hope Secunia Support remove the offender.

Lying has got nothing to do with it. You have created two threads - both asking for us to advise on Anti Viral programmes a a Google telephone.

Neither of these have got anything to do with the Secunia Forum. This forum helps people who use OSI or PSI resolve vulnerability issues.

There are other threads on the forum that do indeed ask for advice on Anti Virus programmes. The difference is:

1. They have contributed to the forum & have made friends who they seek personal advice from.
2. They search the forum before loading a question that has been asked before.

If you are really serious about getting proven FACTS about various Anti Viral programmes enlist here:

http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/index

They are a highly accredited American Company who give EXACT details on what aspects of each programme they have tested & why some fail to live up to their billing. U can then make a balanced judgement.

Secunia are not in the telephone business - why create a thread on this subject? It is no wonder many of us think U are a complete time waster or Spammer!

What concerns me most is my inability to find sufficient evidence as to the reliability of the site originally linked in the opening post by Grace100 .

Their terms and conditions preclude me copying direct from the site , but they are based on Hong Kong Law and not International trading laws and they do not guarantee that either their site or servers used are free from viruses and other malware .

Similarly for a supposedly well established security provider they seem to have a very short IT history ; even so , when I visit the website I have not seemingly come up against any malware .

Personally , I could not ever think of buying security software from such a site , with the information available.

Hi Mike;

To change your Username, open PSI, click on the "Secunia Profile" tab, clear the Username box, enter a new name, click on the "Save Profile" button.

If the Username is unavailable, try another.

This thread was originally started by Grace100 to 'sell' us on a particular anti-virus (in our opinion, read above posts). Although many will give their thoughts on what program is best for a particular purpose, this is usually done between those who are known to each other or by someone who is well known on the forum. This is usually done in the context of solving a problem that the thread is about.

Most here are reasonable to inquiry and the occasional rant (I'm known to be one of the worst ranters). If there is a specific problem that your anti-virus addresses you should start a new thread. If your intention was to express your voice of approval, it fell on deaf ears, as Grace100 is no doubt long gone, cluttering up some other forum.

regards;

Fred
