Google Chrome 3.x

This installation of Google Chrome 3.x was detected as being patched.

The Secunia PSI has not detected any missing security related patches for this program. No further actions are currently needed.

Do you still have the problem ??

Seems to be a sequence of adding "ApplicationData" folders/Files (up to 9 or so) and then starting anew ; have you compared/checked/followed the installation paths to see what/where/how PSI is finding these multiples ??

Is the gap in the "d ll" 's listed your typo or the actual PSI display ?? Same goes for "chro me" in listing #2 ??

Hi flexer225;

If Anthony has any better idea listen to him.

My knee jerk reaction is to delete them all and do a freash install.

good luck;

First just try deleting the version numbered folder(s) in the \Google\Application\.. .folder and reinstalling ; that way you keep your settings .

Hi,

Secunia informed me that 22 browsers were insecure.
I didn't really care about my settings - so I uninstalled Google Chrome- Secunia informed me the a whole lotta of Google Chromes have been uninstalled.

Checked to see if there was anything left of Chrome. Nothing I could see. Rebooted of course.

Using Firefox - Downloaded Chrome again. It included my extensions. Guess missed a folder somewhere. Still getting used to win7.

Opened PSI and ran a scan.
Got the 20 installs of Chrome again.

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\4.0.249.89

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\4.0.249.89

(.......)

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\4.0.249.89

Very strange.

From start menu the path is
C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Applicat ion\chrome.exe

Might be a windows7 issue with the crazy shortcuts, secunia misreading them, or both.
Any ideas?

Thanks
Dave

Hi flexer225:

Strange is not the word I'd use, but whatever.

Knowing next to nothing of 7, I wouldn't want to say which program (or if both) is/are the cause of this. I think Secunia should pick up on this rather quickly though. It seems kind of major.

I'd like to ask, are all twenty showing as 'Patched' or 'Insecure'?

Hi,

They all say "This installation of Google Chrome 4.x was detected as being patched." but also " Google Chrome 4.x (Assessment: At least 22 attack vectors exists when using this browser, see criticality rating below)"
Which referring to the various "instalations" of Chrome.

Furthermore- the same issue is happening to Google Gears 0.x.

Hi Dave;

If PSI reports them as Patched, you have done all there is to do.

The attack vectors mentioned in the Secunia Advisory is there for informational purposes. So that you are aware of the vulnerability. It would be good to read about.

IE & FF have problems too. There's just no way to make browsers completely safe. If someone figures it out we'll hear about it.

I just recently install Chrome on XP machine and am having no problems. Don't understand what 'gears' is about but shall find out. If thats add-ons for Chrome same situation with vulnerabilities.

I hope you feel safer now. It might be an idea to post a thread for the PSI program, instead of 3rd party programs, with a topic header like "On Win 7, reports 20+ Chrome" to see if Secunia notices. I would keep knocking at the door until someone answers.

Hi,

This is a special issue regarding symlinks ("Junctions") in Windows 7. It has been reported to our developers.
Thank you for making us aware of this problem.

Greetings,

Thanks for the update Emil.
Fred: The knock has been answered.

I wonder why this is only happening in Google Chrome and not to any other programmed. Mind you my install of Win7, is on my secondary machine- a laptop, so not too many software installed.

Hi Dave;

Yes, you have not needed to knock long nor hard. Mr. Petersen is one of the many Secunia Officials that often respond on this forum. They take an active interest in their 'free' product as I'm sure they do for the paid version (CSI). I wish more vendors were such good neighbors.

I would like to check out 7 also, but am reluctant to spend good $$$ yet. XP has served well for many years & I do not have heavy duty software that wants more. Still, it seems to be where everyone is going. I'll have to put it on one of mine before long just to learn about. I believe MS has SP1 in the works, maybe then.

Anyhow, thanks for using the forum. Your welcome to post about most any computer issue. Try to keep it security related, but most anything will get a response. If you have spare time & want to respond on another thread, most welcome the input.
