Secunia has scanned my system and has found 4 programmes that are a threat, Firefox 3.5.7 ,Skype (latest version), Thunderbird 3.01 and Apple quicktime 7.3.6 Have downloade all software and reinstalled, but Secunia still tells me they are a threat, and even shows the wrong versions in some cases.
Anyone know how to overcome this?
All help appreciated.

Hello.
If you switch to the Advanced interface you will be able to gain more info....Tech.details/file paths; so on and so forth.
Even tho' you update programs, old files and versions are sometimes left behind. Secunia sometimes still detects these; even if they are in the Recycle bin.
If you click on the +sign alongside an entry it will expand to reveal the information which you can use to remedy the faults if needs be; or to post back to the forum.

well looked at all the data as suggested but it is totally beyond my understanding, I am not a dummy and can fix most of my problems even know how to make adjustments to the registry, but do not understand this part of programming and not sure what to look for., anyway I hardly use Quick time, and have updated Firefox,and Thunderbird, and still no difference so I have ignored them and the rest are ok.
But I would like to thank those who have tried to help in this matter.

Hello Anzacman ,

As this is your first post , I will give you some basic advice (sorry if you already know) , which may help you explain any problems to us more specifically :-

To help resolve any problem , here are some instructions to help you first of all get the best out of PSI :-

1)use PSI in "advanced" mode ;
2)in the "settings" tab make sure that the box in the first/upper section is NOT ticked in order to have the maximum info available ;
3)tell us in which "tab(s)" your problem programme is located ;
4)in that tab , click on the + in the box at the left end of the programme , the page will expand ;
5)in the expanded page , tell us what is written in the "installation path" ;
6)in the "toolbox" section , lower down , the link "technical details" should confirm the installation path details ;
7)click on the link "open folder" and you will see more details concerning the location of the "problem" .

Posting these details will help the Forum help you , if/when you have a problem .

The location of a file will determine whether it poses a threat or not , ignoring it without knowing this defeats the purpose behind Secunia offering us PSI (for free).

Hope this helps .

Take care
Anthony

I'm having the same issue and the Tab is "Insecure" pointing to Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x even though i have loaded 3.6. The technical details pop-up had this info.

Technical details

Technical details about this installation of Mozilla Firefox 3.5.x, you can use this information to determine why the Secunia PSI detected the program and the security state of it.

Version Detected:
3.5.5

Installation Path:
C:\$Recycle.Bin\S-1-5-21-1348060536-221754307-3913 087149-1000\$RB1BNM0\App\firefox\firefox.exe

Last Inspection of Program:
25th Jan. 2010, 18:14 CET

Do i have to go in and remove the Firefox program then reload the latest to get rid of the extraneous files?

OH CRAP as i was rereading this i saw that $Recycle.Bin part. sorry to waste your time.

@md_rick_o

The detection is in the Recycle Bin , so it is "safe" as it cannot launch from there and the bad guys cannot use it .

PSI scans and detects anything it can , either you empty the bin and take out all the garbage or just select the offending file and delete it*** , if you are not sure whether you might want to reinstall something from the bin sometime in the future .

***You have no need to keep the file as it also out of date and insecure - if you go back to 3.5.x you need the up to date version.

Hope that is clear enough .
Anthony

EDIT : no problem :))
