Hello. I am new to Secunia PSI. It was recommended at work to try this program to help secure our personal systems.

I did a search on this in the forum but did not see anything.

I am curious about one of the settings.
There is the "Start the Secunia PSI on boot" which I can disable.
Then there is the "Enable program monitoring" setting. I can disable it but the next time I start PSI it is enabled again.

How can I configure it to not be enabled?

Thank you,

Jim Ward

Jim,
Take the ticks out of all the boxes in the settings tab.

Close PSI. Reopen PSI & it should tell U auto start ..... is disabled.

The auto start is staying disabled. It is the "program monitoring" that is re-checked when I start the program back up.

Jim,
Are U are saying that despite taking all the ticks out the boxes once U close & then reopen PSI it has auto changed the monitoring setting back to having a tick in the box?

That to me is very odd behaviour. I will ask Secunia support to look at this thread & advise.

Their reply may be of interest to others.

By the way, I am running XP pro 32 bit, SP2, 8G ram.
I will try and get SP3 installed and see if that helps.

Ok. I installed SP3 and no change. The box still is rechecked when I restart the program.

I've confirmed this issue and reported it to our developers. Thank you for making us aware of this problem.

Can anyone else here confirm this issue? Can anyone successfully disable the option?
If so, please post back to this thread.

I can confirm that the "run at boot" stays unchecked and PSI is removed from my Startup menu , but that the "program monitoring" is immediately rechecked every time I manually restart PSI .

Yes, this matches my own results. I believe we can conclude it's a verified bug then.
Thanks.

Hi Emil ,

Isn't "program monitoring" what you would want to be running when you launch PSI anyway , provided it's not gobbling up CPU and RAM behind your back ?? It's using Zero and 10,000KB just now.

Last edited on 5th Feb, 2010 15:11 Hi,

Yea, I agree that program monitoring is quite useful. But the PSI can be used without, provided you manually scan after installing patches, and some people may want to free as much memory as possible. Since there's a checkbox for it, it should work.

Besides, forcing features on people isn't very nice (Whether or not it's a nice feature. ;)
