It's been that way for a very long time now.Again, it means you've done all you can, but no patch is available to completely secure it. Some recommend setting the IE to High in internet options; tho' providing you use safe browsing practices there seems to be no real and present danger.

Thanks much. I know it's not a big of an issue, since the threat rating is just 2.
Thanks again

i am getting a similar message with the secunia scan: microsoft internet explorer 8.x, insecure, no solution. but my SA # is 38416 and it is a category 3 threat. should i stop using IE and use firefox instead? i've used firefox in the past and found it difficult to view many webpages so i went back to IE. i use hotmail for my email and using firefox with that was impossible. would appreciate anyone's thoughts. i am not a computer expert.

did you try the gadgets for using hotmail in igoogle in firefox?

http://www.google.com/ig/directory?q=hotmail&hl=de

I don't use IE 8 , my PC crashed, when I started with it...
I have now IE7 again, but I always use the newest mozilla now together with google (igoogle) as my starting page. For my igoogle account I have no google mail also.
There are interesting gadgets, but I had to decide for the only urgently needed, so it works perfectly and needs not too much time to load.
for example: wheatherforecast, radio , translator, train schedule, certain news...
you can have both (IE and mozilla) on your PC, but you must decide for one of it to use.

For using hotmail I took the extra button on my desktop so far, but I want to try to install one of that gadgets too. I hope, it works.

Its a bit of a minefield out there.

IE8, as already reported, is (and has been for a while) cat.3 threat (no patch until M$ bring out IE9). SA38416 refers.

Chrome is (and has been for a slightly less shorter time than IE8) a cat.2 threat. SA38061 refers.

And Firefox 3.6, as of 18 Feb., is now cat.4 threat (as of yet, NOT confirmed by Mozilla). SA38608 refers.

With safe browsing practices, as previously suggested (and outlined under PSI Secure Browsing tab), both Chrome and IE8 are usable (probably in that order).

What I, and some others, have done, is downgrade from Firefox 3.6 to previous build version of 3.5.8, which, as of now still remains secure.

The only negative I have experienced with Ff, is its not as speedy as Chrome, but at least the same as IE8, if not quicker.

I use Thunderbird (also from Mozilla) for e-mail and am more than satisfied, and cant relate to the problems you have suggested.

In the end, the choice is yours, but the more available information, the better informed the decision (hopefully).

TiMow

IE is part of Windows and can not be removed.

Windows Explorer uses IE for its display:

In IE open a new tab then enter C: in the address bar to see the contents of the C: drive.

mine ie8 is security risk 5.
what do u do?
delete it?
then other programmes dont function correct.
best not run it.
use another browser.
i use Opera.
not as insecure.
remember
EVERYONE has ie8
and too make it full proof is freaking impossible.
hackers live to break it down.
security experts work to make it secure.
half a dozen of one against six of the other really.
