Hi guys, I have Google Chrome (v 4.0.249.78 UNKNOWN 36714). When I launch certain websites , usually sites that contain animations (e.g. videos, flash..etc.), a drop bar beneath the menu bar asks me to install the necessary plugin, and I choose (install plugin), but nothing happens!
when I close the browser and try opening the same site again, the same message appears!

Question is: What plugin do I need for my browser to work? I appreciate any hints

P.S: I previously had FireFox installed then I uninstalled it, and I remember It asked me to install some plugin, which I did, but is there a link between the two browsers?

Thanks
Wess

Hello wess112 ,

I ave not had the problem , so I'll have to guess :-

As far as I know :

1)One installation of Java works for all browsers

2)One installation of Adobe Shockwave Player works for all browsers

3)You need the NPAPI version of Adobe Flash Player for Firefox and similar browsers and I think that includes Chrome .

If you look in PSI in "patched" tab - you need to be in "advanced mode" - you will see which versions (if any) of 1 , 2 and 3 are installed on your computer .

If you click on the "page" diagram to the left of the spanner (top right of the Chrome browser) and select "developer" in the drop down menu and then select "task manager" you will see which extensions and plug-ins are being used at that instant .

When I run a video type link then I see :

"Plug-in: Shockwave Flash" is being used ; note it is not an "extension" and does not show in "extensions" in the "spanner" dropdown.

Adobe Flash Player is sometimes called Flash Shockwave Player ; as I have both Flash and Shockwave installed I don't know for sure who is referring to what .

Clear as mud , eh ??

Do your checking and let us know what you find .

Anthony
