Hi barbareska;

As far as the topic header of your thread, did you mean for it to be in the body of your post?

You seem to be asking about recovery of a system that has completely failed and will not start. Is this correct? If so, What type of computer and what Operating System do you have? Also you said, "... to repair things like the below mentioned?". Below what? I do not see anything except another question.

About your main problem, is this a separate machine or the one above you want to recover? (You shouldn't have to recover unless you have a major failure.) You said, "c:\you cannot grap at - the path is not at your disposal - what on earth does that mean". Is that a file path? It seems your system says something about the file path being unavailable. Again, what type of computer and what Operating System are we dealing with.

Please try to be more specific about your problem(s).

regards;

Fred

hi fred,
Now I try to explain to you the matter of my problems:
again and again the insert comes:
C:\ you cannot grab at - the path is not at your disposal - = this is the info, which stands on the desktop - when I- for example - want to extinguish a data from the desktop
therefore my question: can I restitute the old intact system by running the recovery disc or can I reset the intact system with the usb stick -
I´ve installed windows 7 home premium,
intel Pentium Processor T4400 with dual-core technology(2,20 GHz, 1MB Cache, 800 MHzFSB)
4 GB DDR2 SDRAM kinetic energy (capacity, tool?)
Now I hope, that you understand my problem better,
it would be fine, if you could help me,
regards barbareska
ps- it´s my own horrible home pc

Hello Barbareska and TiMow

I cannot quite understand the translated message being shown , perhaps if TiMow could see the actual message showing in German , there might be more details .

The last problem Barbareska posted , seemed to involve the UAC and administration rights ; Barbareska , did you get it sorted with the help from John and your brother ??

I can't help with Windows 7 as such and I'm not sure Fred can , but we can take a look .

Your "horrid home computer" looks to be quite a beauty from where I'm sitting ;))

Good evening,

I dont know what translator barbareska uses, but my experience of them is not good.

I dont really get what the problem is - I dont know if Fred had a handle on it either.

I read on one of the on-going sagas, that at 3 a.m. his time, he was turning in, and therefore felt obliged to warn barbareska that she wouldn`t get an instant reply.

If she re-posts in Deutsch, I cant guarantee I have the necessary language skills in technical termonology.

Hi ,

TiMow , I got the gist of what you were saying :)

It is more the words "grab" , the "path" and "disposal" which confuse me (easily done, I admit) .

Also Barbareska , what exactly is the "data" you are trying to "extinguish" from the desktop ?? Where is it on the screen , what is the origin/source of the data ?? Are you trying to change the layout of the desktop ??

OK Anthony,

I`ve tried to back translate, and then come up with a better English translation - its all a bit vague and guesswork, but here goes.

When she tries to delete something from the desktop (dont know what or why), she gets a message along the lines of:

C:\ access denied - the path (action?) is not available (or authorised).

I cant imagine this scenario.

The point of the thread is to ask, if she can restore (return) her computer to a previous stable state using a recovery disk (of her old in tact system), or can she reset using a USB stick - but she doesn`t say what`s on the stick.

Again I don`t see why if she has a disk, she wants to use a USB stick - cant see the advantage of the stick.

Unfortunately, due to the position of my computer - when the kids go to bed, I have to shut down - wont be around for much longer.

TiMow.

EDIT: this post was written before I read your last one, but I think your points are covered. I had connection problems and lost some time - had to re-submit.

Thanks TiMow ,

Sounds like it is still an "administrator rights" problem re that problem ; the rest re resetting is not my domain . It looks like Fred will have to take things back up again .

No indication to any of the above, from what we have so far.

TiMow

EDIT. Fortunately I do copy (when I dont forget) - it just took time to get the connection back up again.

hallo barbareska;

@TiMow and Anthony, thank you both for helping on this thread. Obviously a team effort will be required. I used an online translator above, hope barbareska can read it OK. It took ten+ minutes just for that little bit, so will only resort to translating 'hard' stuff.

I believe you have a handle on the Administrator Rights thing. I am not very familiar with this OS, but have learned a thing or two, second hand. Whoever picks her post up first should be looking for:

1) Was Win 7 an upgrade? She said above, "I´ve installed windows 7..." We're not so concerned about what the earlier OS was, other than it was working.

2) After installing 7 did the computer function normally?

3) What action caused the failure?

These are the questions I'll ask below.

Please remember that in her original post she said, "I obviously make things that cause such difficulties...", so I would think that the problem is correctable and we should look at that option before using a recovery disk or USB dongle or whatever.

@TiMow, I take it your Location: CH means China? Are you understanding our English alright? Just want to make sure I don't embarrass myself again.

Morning / evening Fred

Just a quickie for now.

Which translator did you use? - it didn`t come across at all bad.

I use Google when I need to - which is far from perfect.

I cant say it`s 100% accurate, because my German is far from that - but I could understand it.

Good job.

TiMow

EDIT: CH is for Confoederatio Helvetica (Switzerland to you and me).
If I dont understand English we`ll have to blame my upbringing / schooling - born and bred.
Even spent a few years on your side of the pond.

hi anthony, fred and TiMo,
thanks and regards to you all !

Hello Barbareka ,

"Google translate" gives this translation (in two seconds !!!) for your post ; I am away for some hours (4 or 5) before I can reply :-

"""hi anthony, fred and TiMo,
I now versuchs 1x in German, because TiMo is indeed out of Switzerland, so
1) if an Internet address specified in an email and I'll open it, comes an insert:
"This operation has been canceled due to restrictions on the PC, they should contact their system administrator"
2) if I want to delete a file that is located on the desktop, is:
"The path is not available
to C: \ is not accessible, access denied "
and
3) was my question:
I recover in this case with the USB stick, the old right conditions or should I use for the restoration of "normal" PC system, the "Recovery Disc"?
I hope now my question really got over,
thanks and regards to you all!
Barbareska"""""

Question one is the same one you asked before .

In question 2) what is the "file" you refer to , is it already there or did you put it there yourself ??.

Google tranlates as :-

Also you need toanswer Fred's questions about installing Windows 7 :-

I`ve to go to the doctor, because my ears hurt terribly - and on the way home I`ll buy a dictionary which is specialised on pc terms - I cannot go on like that, when I try to express myself very hard but won´t be understood,
in the meantime,

Hi,

A neat little trick for words you don't understand to is to go to www.google.com and enter "define: word".

As an example, here is the definition of "heuristic".
http://www.google.dk/search?hl=en&q=define%3A+heur...

(Update:I did notice the above link doesn't work. I've reported it to our developers. In the mean time, please just copy-and-past the link)

Hope this helps. ;)

Thanks for help, Emil, but I think the problems barbareska is having are more to do with translating technical terms from German to English. Everything she writes in English is through an online translator, and from my exprience they lack many specialist technical terms. I think that`s what she means re. buying a book.

I appreciate its probably bad form to answer on someone else`s behalf (on their thread too), but I believe this to be the case here.

I`m at the moment trying to compose a reply to some of the points in German, as I have a limited knowledge of the language.

Thanks

TiMow

EDIT: if your try to paste a copied link that is longer than one line in the reply box, what happened in your case above is what has happened to me before.

Hallo barbareska

@TiMow & Anthony, I believe we should respect barbareska's wishes to not post here until she is better and feels up to the job. This may be another long thread, I've found that a lot of 'side chatter' can really confuse things. I will start a new thread for us to discuss a solution & other stuff. Look for "barbareska's Win 7 issues" as the topic in Open Discussions. http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/361... Again thanks to both of you & Mr. Petersen for all your effort. I'm certain it is appreciated.
