I recently switched to Win7 and use PSI advanced to scan my system. I've noticed that Chrome is no longer detected as a browser. I uninstalled the version I had rebooted and then reinstalled the most recent, ran a PSI scan and still, Chrome is nowhere to be found.

I looked in both the c:\program files and c:\program files (x86) directories for Chrome and it's not there nor is it in the Google subdir. I use Chrome so I know it's on my computer but PSI no longer detects it's presence.

Any suggestions as to what's up?

Hello.
You don't say which version you are currently using/updated to. Secunia doesn't monitor beta or dev channel versions; tho' you should see Google Gears listed in your Patched tab......and obviously be familiar with removal of the older. I'm not familiar with the current Stable version of Chrome....if that is the version you have upgraded to....I would have thought it would show up in the Secure Browsing tab.

I'm using Chrome 5.0.322.2 - I don't think it's a beta version. I'm also using Win7 Pro 64bit.

I do see Google Gears and Picasa under the Patched tab but Chrome is nowhere to be found. The lack of Chrome showing under Secure Browsing is what initially caught my attention.

5.0.322.2 is the older Chrome dev channel version. I've just tonight updated from that to the version you see in my signature. Neither the older nor newer show in my Secure Browsing tab.
If you click on the spanner in Chrome, and then About Chrome, it should update; but it won't be monitored.....just the Gears.

Hi S.Stasiewicz;

As a new Chrome user I have useful input (Mogs is happy now?).

The newest non-Beta version of Chrome 4.0.249.89 .

You have installed the Beta and Secunia doesn't monitor Beta's.

regards;

Fred

Ah, said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw.

Thank you for this information. I didn't realize I'd picked up a beta version. I guess it helps to read the instructions.

Thanks again.

Hello Stan

You actually have a Dev channel version . Chrome do good Dev and Beta versions , rougher round the edges and occasional crashes , but , as mogsi will testify , fun at the bleeding edge .

If you want PSI to show more than "Gears" you need the "stable" version .

I "think" Chrome leaves the previous version folder behind for the convenience of the developers and mere mortals need to live with it - who knows

Take care

Anthony

I'll step in the poo and ask the stupid question. What's a 'Dev channel version' and while I'm at it, what's the difference between that and a Beta?

In practise, I havn't found much difference at all.....they've all worked equally as well from my experience.
Dev versions are developer versions....where you can become involved, if you want to. By simply using, and ticking the box to allow some information to be collected/collated may be considered to be just that.
Beta versions are those more reliable apparently, and put out to test/appraisal, before being given Stable status.
Stable versions are those that have run the whole gamut of the previously stated.
