I had heard rumors of a possible 'new' PSI. After reading the Softpedia article, all I can say is, "Hooray for Secunia". It is about time someone got it together.

Back in the day, malware ranged from mildly annoying to troublesome. Nowadays, it's destructive to outright theft & terrorism. The major players should have addressed this issue long ago, instead of fighting over market-share. I am pleased to learn that Secunia is doing something about it.

Thanks Secunia;

Fred

I too have to "jump on the bandwagon" in recognizing the positive
steps that Secunia have taken regarding updating to patch the
various vulnerabilities found. Thanks for your bold move in this direction.

The only thing that comes to mind with this being done automatically
is--does this require any input from the end user? In other words how
will I be sure that no other programs-i.e. toolbars, download managers,
or any other unwanted bloatware won't be 'piggybacked' with the
automatic patch. This Forum is filled with Q & A about this problem already.
I think most regular users of this Forum know which vendors
are guilty of this practice. If this practice continues I can foresee that
this Forum will be busier than it is now.

I ask not that you agree with me but merely that you think about it.
As you can tell by my 'Score' I'm technically challenged or I don't
know how to express myself very well.

Thanks again Secunia for your positive action(s) & providing a place
for ALL to be heard.

Regards, wr

One would hope that the 'automatic updates' would be for vendors who agree with Secunia's concept and understand the pitfalls of bloatware added to their downloads. Wr makes a good point that should (must?) be addressed.

@wr, I'll risk a few thumbs down to say this. I look at your "System Score" which is currently 100% (to my knowledge, consistently so) and applaud you for your skill & expertise at maintaining your system. Also, I personally have never misunderstood you, nor failed to get your point.

[edit in: And the number of "Posts" too!]

I am not a 'fan' of the new scoring system, but do understand it's purpose. It, like so many other social guides, can be misused for individual gain or detriment. The downside being that a new member would think someone with a very high score is knowledgeable and a very low (or even a negative score) has no useful input. This can obviously be a mistake.

I do believe that the longer this system is in place, the "score" will even out. Persons with a popular following will come and go. Those committed to help will, if by no other means, be recognized for their talent by word of mouth.

Thanks Fred,

I'm certainly not here to win a popularity contest but to try in my
inept but honest way to try & help those I can.

Hope you have a enjoyable weekend.
