when posting here this morning, there was a message "an error occurred while verifying the Security Certificate. The Secunia PSI cannot continue execution" and Scunia shut down.

When I opened my PC just now, first there was a window 'Secunia PSI' at the top, showing a message "Please wait while network connectivity is verified" and next there was a window "Video Link" waiting to connect.
This is Video Link Pro 3.1.0.1034e by Smith Micro Software, showing "Philips" in the window. Again, it shut down and my Secunia icon (bottom right task bar) disappeared.

I got here by "Start" and then via the list of programs shown there. The Secunia icon has re-appeared.

Any thoughts please as to what happened? (There's nothing in the Programs forum.)

good morning, Anthony and Fred.
My daughter was here a few hours before the problem and probably used her Philips webcam.
Nothing else has changed though - but I'll ask her later!

Hello taffy ,

Here is a tech report on "a" Philips webcam which shows that it uses Smith Micro's Video Link Pro software . This could explain the second window appearing in your second load problem :-

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/p/pcvc840k_00/pcv...

You could check for the same regarding your daughter's webcam .

Is the camera permanently linked to your comp ?? Does it use a USB entry ?? Is it disconnected using secure procedure and not just pulled out ??

Are you able to load PSI normally now ??

If you still have certificate or connection problems , then you might want to read this thread :-

http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/364...

In a post on the 2nd of March , Emil Petersen describes dealing with the Security Certificate problem .

Here also is a copy of wr's approved method for ensuring PSI can connect to the Secunia servers , should you get a repeat of the "network connection" problem :-

Please note that at the end of the method other browsers are mentioned , PSI only and always uses IE to connect to it's Secunia servers even if you have another browser set as your "default" .

So IE must always be correctly configured .

You may need to follow the procedure with another :eg: default one if you have trouble getting to the Forum (for example) using the PSI link .

wr's method :

1.Secunia PSI needs to be able to connect to Secunia servers to complete its scanning. However, if you have not configured
the security settings of Internet Explorer, the Secunia PSI may be prevented from getting the scan results. To receive
your scan results, you need to do some changes to your Internet options.
To do this:
a. Open Internet Explorer.
b. Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security tab.
c. Select the Internet zone and click on the Custom Level button.
d. In Security Settings, go to the Scripting>Active Scripting option.
e. Make sure that Active Scripting is Enabled (rather than Disabled or Prompted).
f. Press OK then Yes.
g. Back in the Security tab, select the Trusted sites zone and click on the Sites button.
h. Look at the bottom of the page and take the tick from the box marked"Require server verification(HTTPS)for all site zones" then type in the following and press the Add button to add them to the Trusted Zone Sites list:
http://*.secunia.com
https://*.secunia.com
i. Press Close
j. Run the Secunia PSI again to view the scan results
If using a browser other than IE open Control Panel>Internet Options then follow c. thru j.
2. Make sure your computers clock date & time are correct.
3. Make sure your firewall settings allow Secunia access both outbound & inbound.
4. Make sure no add-ons such as pop-up blockers, etc. are blocking access.

Hope this might help.

Regards, wr

Let us know your update .

Anthony

PS :Forgot to ask are you still using XP SP3 OS ??
