I updated from JAVA (TM) 6 update 19 to JAVA (TM) 6 update 20. The control panel still shows update 19.

Sometime ago, I had same problem and if my memory serves me right, Maurice gave an uninstaller link and an installer link. I would like to have that again. I thought I had saved those links but can't find them right now. I would appreciate the help again. I am somewhat of a novice.

PSI shows no insecure programs after scanning. I don't know how to find out about the paths, etc.

Hi newby

Any program that has been updated (i.e. patched) can be found under "Patched" tab on Advanced mode (See top right of PSI window). Click on [+] on l,h,s, of relevant program to reveal toolbox options.

I had a long w/e of continually un- and re- installing Java trying to resolve a similar problem - to no avail.

What finally sorted this issue out for me was to uninstall PSI from add/remove programs (from control panel), and download and re-install PSI.

This is particularly relevant if your current version is 1.5.0.0. - the latest is 1.5.0.1, which is not a required update (just language additions), but has solved many recent problems, involving a variety of programs.

May need to re-boot and rescan PSI, to fully solve Java problem, after re-installing.

EDIT: I forgot - if you want to refer back to any info. from a thread that you have originated or contributed to, all you need to do is click on "My Threads" on left of forum page, or on your username where it appears in blue on the forum page.

Thank you TiMow

I found the answer to my problem in "My Threads" as you suggested. It solved my problem and the Control Panel shows the update is current. Thanks so much you reminding me where to find the answer I needed. Newby

Hi again newby

I've misread your problem - incorrect Java version is showing under your control panel (I assume add/remove), and not under PSI.

You need to reboot after updating, and the u.20 should show.

If not go to this link:

http://java.com/en/

and click "Free Java Download" and this performs a verification check.

If this still doesn't sort it out, then click to highlight Java (TM) 6 update 19 in add/remove and click "Remove" and confirm (OK).

Then use the above link to download u.20.

Then reboot.

EDIT: Our replies have just crossed - glad all OK.

Hi all

@newby
TiMow has given logically the best solution to your problem. Seems as
most everyone is having problems not just with Java(tm) but a lot of
other programs not being detected 'right'. The uninstall/reinstall of
the PSI seems to correct most problems.

In your initial post you say you believe that Maurice Joyce gave you
links to uninstaller/installer for Java(tm). I believe you're confusing this with
Adobe Flash Player. Adobe does have a uninstaller which has to be used
to uninstall that program as Adobe doesn't support Add/Remove Programs.
As far as I know a 3rd party uninstaller may also be used.

In the Vista OS open Control Panel & there you'll see a Java(tm) Console.
This is easy to recognize as the 'steaming' coffee cup is displayed along
with Java under the logo. When you open the console there should be a tab for Update-just click that (if I remember correctly-I no longer use Java(tm)) &
if update(s) are available it/they will be downloaded.

There is software available to remove old versions of Java(tm)here http://raproducts.org/. Here is the link for download site : http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/

Hope this helps.

Regards, wr

EDIT: Sorry for the delayed post. Glad all sorted now. Don't forget to
accept TiMows reply newby so it locks the thread & we all no
longer get unnecessary update emails. wr
