First off thank you secunia for helping to keep my computer free of insecurities. What else can be done to make the program secure? Have downloaded all known updates from microsoft update and re-scanned and it still comes back as being insecure. What gives with these ms programs? I thought they were supposed to be the best? Maybe microsoft needs to develop better more secure programs like mac or apple. I'm surprised they can still be sold with a profit with all the problems I've encountered with my PC. I think the next time I buy a computer it wont be one with windows and microsoft software. It seems no matter what I do i get viruses, Trojans, and just plain old unresponsive programs, and the incompatibility of windows Vista. I'm sick of it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello.
Secunia looks for insecurities/vulnerabilities in your programs....helping to keep all those apps that you've put forward for it to monitor; up to date.
You'll need to be more exact/specific, when seeking solutions to problems.
Are you yet using psi with the Advanced interface ? If not, you'd find it advantageous to do so.
Any prog found to be insecure/end of life, will be shown in those tabs.
Alongside each ( on the left )....if you click on the + sign; the entry will expand to reveal the file path. That can be confirmed by clicking on Tech Details. Post that information back to the forum if you are uncertain how best to proceed.
If you are attracting infections it may be that your Security is not adequate.
If you visit unsafe sites, you may exascerbate the situation.
You can slag off Vista if you want....but I've found it flippin' marvellous !! Regards

hi Amanda

I don't want to repeat what mogs has said but in my computer Vista has not been shown by psi as insecure at any time. I too have found Vista to be no problem and have enjoyed using it but will look forward to using Windows 7 when buying a new laptop in the near future.

As mogs said if you can be more specific about your problems and perhaps let us know what anti-virus and or anti-spyware programs you are using the forum can be of more help to you.

Partly no doubt to a little luck but mostly due to good housekeeping none of my computers and others I help to look after have ever had malware of any kind since the one time when I had a dail-up connection many years ago.

Should you like to have a little more detailed assistance get back and I'm sure any of the several helpful contributors will be more than happy to help you with your problems.

Michael

Mine also shows that it is still insecure but there is no info given.

It shows:
Microsoft Windows Vista
This installation of Microsoft Windows Vista is insecure and potentially exposes your system to security threats!

Secunia strongly recommends that you update this program by installing the update that is provided by the vendor of this program.
Installation Path
N/A Fix It!
1) Click the "Download Solution" button below.
2) Select, accept, and run the proposed update.
3) Follow the guidelines as provided by the vendor, after pressing run.

Congratulations! If everything went as planned this program should now be patched and removed from this page within minutes.

Alternatively, if you are not using this program, you might consider uninstalling it from your computer.

there are no updates when I check windows update.

These programs also show that they are insecure:

Insecure Programs [?] Version Detected [?] Threat Rating [?] Direct [?]

Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2

Windows Live Mail .6.0.6001.18000

Windows Live Mail .6.0.6001.18000

Windows Live Mail .6.0.6000.20590

Windows Live Mail .6.0.6000.16480

Windows Live Mail .6.0.6000.16386

Windows Live Mail .6.0.6001.18000

Windows Live Mail 14.0.8064.206

and there is still no update available.

Hi,

Some Microsoft updates only "kick in", so to say, after you reboot. Some even take several "rounds" to install. Therefore, it is vital for all Microsoft updates that you try this procedure:

1) Check MS updates, install all patches offered
2) Reboot
3) Repeat step one, repeat step 2) if 1) offered patches
4) Rescan with the PSI - you should be shown as secure!

hope this helps.

of course after I wrote the thread it finally loaded the patch. It has been fine since but i still get programs not responding, including Secunia. but i think that is due to small amount of memeory. I have limited what starts when windows. does. but that is for a different thread. My security features are window defender, trend micro virus and spyware, and firiewall , along with spybot. thank you for all your help. sorry i vented was really angry. I like the format of windows and know it getting a different one to learn would be rather difficult. Thank you again, and I apologize.
