When I restarted my laptop (Compaq CQ71, with Windows7) just now, there was a message about a Norton program that had been removed. When I clicked on the Norton icon at the bottom left-hand side, it said that the shortcut had been removed. I clicked yes to remove that icon.

I now find that although I still have NIS 2010 (& the icon in the bottom right-hand side - "hidden" - it's not listed in the list of Patched programs. The only entry there is "Symantec tgctlsr Module ActiveX Control 6.x installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Support\tgctlsr.dll

I've checked my desktop (XP) and the Symantec NIS entries are there.

I must admit that I've not looked at the list in detail before so I've no idea whether or not the Symantec NIS entries were ever shown.

Is the difference simply because of how Windows 7 works?

Once again, I'm puzzled!

There are two entries.

The important one is:
Symantec NIS2010 version 109.0.3.4 - it is secure

Edit: Just ran a new scan. Symantec was not removed & remains in the patched area.

2nd Edit: To be clear U should have:

SECURE BROWSING TAB

Symantec Security Check Registry & File Information ActiveX Control 1.x

IN THE PATCHED TAB

Symantec Security Check Registry & File Information ActiveX Control 1.x
version 1.00.00.043

Symantec NIS 2010 version 109.0.3.4

If U open NIS>Help>About the latest Engine is 17.7.0.12

Hi Maurice.

I do have NIS 17.7.0.12 but all that shows in the Secunia scan list is per my first post. I've emailed you screen prints.

I'll scan again to see if there are any changes & then I'll post the results.

That ActiveX U have is Automated Support - it can be safely deleted.

With Windows 7 just navigate there>right click>delete

Scanned again and NIS now appears:
Patched:
Symantec Norton Internet Security 2010 109.0.3.4
Symantec tgctlsr Module ActiveX Control 6.x 6.9.2894.0

Secure Browsing:
Symantec tgctlsr Module ActiveX Control 6.x

Could the difference between our ActiveX program names be because I couldn't install my off-the-shelf NIS 2010 on my laptop using my disk & Symantec emailed me a link to thei website so that I could download it from there?

Almost certainly because it is automated support - useless now

Edit - Got your drift - do not delete yet.

our posts crossed, Maurice. As there is no other ActiveX program, should I still delete what I have?

Go back to this in PSI

Symantec tgctlsr Module ActiveX Control 6.x 6.9.2894.0

Select Open Folder - that is what I want - the contents.

Edit: Sorry mislead U slightly - I meant Downloaded Program Files which is what U will see.

There are 164 items in it, Maurice. I selected "save into my docs" and have emailed you that. Fingers crossed.
