Hi jckinnick, and welcome to Secunia.

First of all, by 'updates', do you mean the PSI itself? The latest version is Secunia PSI v1.5.0.1

Secondly, you can manually scan whenever you choose. Just go to the "scan" tab on the main page. The auto-scan means it will scan again seven days later.

Does this help? If it solves your problem would you please lock this thread by
choosing the ACCEPT option below this post so you & I won't receive
unnecessary update emails.

If it doesn't please re-post with details. Regards.

Is there a way to check for updates on the PSI programs itself without having to look up the home page to see what the latest version is?

I'm wanting to disable the automatic scan every seven days thing is there a way to do that?

Hi again.

(1) The PSI program is changed every now and again. Maurice Joyce's post 28th May, 2010 01:41 in this thread http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/429...

tells you how to ensure that you are kept informed when Secunia updates PSI. It works for other programs too, as you will see.

(2) There is no list for us to see of all the changes/updates etc. The scan checks your PC against Secunia's data-base and tells you if you're OK or if you have problems.
Why would you want to disable the automatic scan? It's an excellent discipline.
If you want to change it to a more convenient day/time, then all you have to do is to manually scan at that day/time and it will then automatically scan a week later.

When did you last scan? Were there any problems? What's your score? (If you go to your Profile page, by ticking the relevant box, it will always show your score when you post.)

Does this help? If it solves your problem would you please lock this thread by
choosing the ACCEPT option below this post so you & I won't receive
unnecessary update emails.

If it doesn't please re-post with details. Regards.

@jckinnick ,

The latest version of PSI - if you have it installed - is displayed at the bottom right of any PSI page .

In the past a new version becoming available was displayed in the same place . As the update from 1.5.0.0. to 1.5.0.1. was not a critical update it was not displayed , allowing people to keep the earlier version without an "annoying" up date message .

The next version is likely to be a 2.x and quite how Secunia will advise that I do not know - I'm pretty sure it will be exposed here on the Forum and you may get an email from Secunia as well .

Taffy has explained the auto scan , it resets itself for a week's delay after any scan - manual or auto .

Hope this helps .
Anthony

excellent timing jckinnick!!!!! we now have a new version of Secunia! Secunia PSI v1.5.0.2.

have you installedit? halfway through it will tell you to close and then exit the current version.

Have you had chance to try what we suggested earlier?

If it solves your problem would you please lock this thread by choosing the ACCEPT option below this post so you & I won't receive lots of update emails!

No reason I just want to scan it myself instead of it automatically scanning every week.

There was an update today so i guess it just automatically checks for an update when you open the program?

Hi jckinnick;

This is not the 'normal' way to use PSI, but in the "Settings" tab, uncheck the box "Start the Secunia PSI on boot". On your next boot, PSI will not load. On 'maintenance day' (every week or so for me), manually run PSI to do a scan and check for insecure or end-of life programs. I am not likely to 'fix' anything until my 'maintenance day' anyhow (unless critical).

Hope this helps;

Fred

I keep getting the message that there is an update to secunia. How do you do the update? I've looked at all the pages on the personal screen both on simple and advanced and can't find a link.

@SiamaLee

The new version can be downloaded using the download PSI link at the top right of this web page .

Download the installer , close all unnecessary programmes , be sure to exit PSI (using the right click menu on the tray icon) and run the installer .

If you wish you can uninstall PSI first but the installer will do it for you .

Some people have had problems downloading using IE as their browser ; neither Firefox nor Chrome seem to give problems .

Come back here if you have a problem , questions .

Take care

Antony

Hi,
Thanks to "wr"

I used this alternative source :
http://download.cnet.com/Secunia-Personal-Software
with no problems. I did no cleaning or deleting, and used IE8 and XP sp3. The exe file from top right on here gave an incomplete download every time.

Mike.

You (we) are alerted by the bubble from the tray icon (when you start your PC) when an important update is available. (There was no notification for the one before last, as this only had language additions and was deemed non-important for most users)

This is often accompanied by a Secunia Official post on the forum.

PSI updates are not as frequent as a lot of other programs, so there is no automatic or manual check.

However version 2.x is supposedly in the pipeline and expected in the near future.

TiMow

EDIT: Having said there is no automatic check - maybe there is, and the pop-up bubble is the result of that. I can't say for sure, but updates are automatically notified, one way or the other.

missed the update bubble?

Check this out:
http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/437...

My post 3rd Jun, 2010 08:41 tells you about Change Detection, a (new?) way to get an email whenever PSI is updated (or whatever other software you want to monitor).

Site suggestion provided by Maurice Joyce, a Dedicated Contributor here.
