Upon notice from Secunia that a new version is available,when trying to install it,at the end "Run" I get this NSIS error message which does not allow the completion of the downloading of the new version of Secunia PSI
I use Windows XP Home,SP 3. I tried to uninstall Secunia and re-install,but only the "older"version came back and the above error message persists. John A.

I see I'm not alone. I'm glad to read your post because I, too, was thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling and you've saved me the aggravation!

Hi all

There are 3 items that usually 'fix' the NSIS problem.

1. Clear Temp Internet files

2. Use another browser to download

3. Use another download source: http://download.cnet.com/Secunia-Personal-Software...

Hope this helps.

Sorry,I tried all that.I cleaned temp.files,used IE AND Firefox,and Download.com
t re-install.The result was always the same error message!
Please note:on my laptop(Vista Home Premium 64 bit)the update worked immediately with no problem.But I haven't managedon my desktop(XP, SP 3 )
Even following all your advice.
I wonder WHY SECUNIA 1.doesn't provide a link to download updates ? and
2.why at Download.com it is still the OLD VERSION that is downloading?????this doesn't make too much sense!
Thanks, John A.(macko 1944)

I'm using Vista Home Premium and experience the same error here.

I too had this problem but went to Secunia's site and found this information:

Current version: 1.5.0.2
Latest release: 28th May. 2010
File size: 734,168 bytes
Total users: 2,520,976
New users (24h): 2,887

I found I was using ver. 1.5.0.0 and there does not appear to be great differences, so it may or may not be worth the effort.

An observation: When using the link advising of this offer I went and downloaded it using Firefox, so it was SAVED.
When going to the Secunia site and downloading it, the size of the download was different. In other words the original download somehow did not download completely, hence was unlikely to install correctly.

Hope this makes some kind of sense... now I shall give it a try! LOL

Addendum:

PLEASE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING INFO IS FROM THE CNET SITE AND YOU CAN SEE THE VERSION IS NOT 1.5.0.2 AS ON THE SECUNIA SITE!
ADVICE: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE VERSION FROM THE CNET SITE.

* Secunia Personal Software Inspector
* Version 1.5.0.1
* Scan your installed programs and categorize them by their security update status.

* User rating:

3.5 stars

* Editors' rating:

5.0 stars

* 206,709
* total downloads
* 635
* last week

Enough out of me.

Hi All;

As I pointed out on another thread and lgslat confirms here, ver. 1.5.0.1 & 1.5.0.2 are minor changes. I also have 1.5.0.0 on two machines and feel no need to update. The problem is the update (failing), not the necessity of updating PSI (in this case).

regards;

Fred
