First of all, the winPcap 3.x fix won't install because it is "in use". I've wasted most of today trying to get into this forum only to find out there is zero info about winPcap.

There are a few WinPcap posts. You can find them by using the Forum search box.
Try downloading the latest version from http://www.winpcap.org/default.htm .

Thanks, but I understood very little of what I found. If Secunia can't lead me thru the patch process I think I had better live with the problem rather than try to fix it. At least I can't be any worse off than a couple of days ago before I ever heard of Secunia.

@claw

U said it wont install because its in use.
U have to exit all programs using winpcap.

Go to this site and see if it relate to one of your programs.

http://www.threatexpert.com/files/Packet.dll.html

If you find that is in conjunction with a program you have and you need it
or maybe you have a corrupted file then you have to download it from:

http://www.dll4free.com/packet.dll.html

Ps: Maybe you have to boot in safe mode to achieve your goal.

Hope that help

Edit: Sorry that i didn't mention the relationship between winpcap
& packet.dll

Apology's

You don't say whether you installed WinPcap yourself. If not, it's worth checking as it is sometimes associated with Malware. It is open source; so it can be incorporated into other programs. It seems to be used in some P2P filesharing and Torrent programs.

I did not install winPcap unless it came with something else. I did find a site that explains what it does and understood none of it. They make it sound critical so I decided not to mess with it. Secunia is the one who says it is not a serious threat. Thanks.
