Before the latest crash, I had Secunia PSI, v. unknown.

After crash, I downloaded v. 1.5.0.2. It will not install. EM says "Common causes are incomplete download and damaged media. Contact installer's author to obtain a new copy."

Previous version worked fine on W2000.

Can I get a copy of previous versions?

It sounds like a fault that occurred for some using IE to download.

If that's the case with you, then try again using another browser, and use the link top right of forum web page.

TiMow

EDIT: This version should work with W2000 (SP4) according to this link:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

EDIT2: With the above link, on the l.h.s. of that page is "Change Log", listing all previous versions, but there doesn't appear to be an option to download any, from here at least.

Yes, MS checked out fine.

I have tried downloading several times and renamed some downloads under a new name. None of them completes installation.

Unless anyone else has an idea, you may well have to wait until tomorrow for Secunia to offer some assistance

Troubleshoot crashes in Windows

Introduction
Ever wondered why there is a counter that goes up to 100 on the dreaded blue screen of death?

This is the last action of a Windows session in its death throes and it is copying the contents of the computer’s memory to the hard disk in a special file called Memory.dmp. The idea is that the contents of the memory may shed some light on why everything went wrong. Most of this information is only of use to experienced programmers but it can sometimes reveal a rogue driver that has been causing the problems.

Replacing the driver or disabling the device (if possible) can improve the reliability of a computer that has become temperamental. The extra information will be helpful to anyone giving help on a forum. The Debugging Tools for Windows can provide a lot of information but the most important is the most likely culprit for the problem.

« Previous Step
1
2

4

Next Step »
First we need to check that the computer is set to record problems properly. For Windows XP, left-click on the Start Menu and then right-click on My Computer. Left-click on Properties and then on Advanced. Click on Settings in the Startup and Recovery section. Select Kernel Memory dump in the Write debugging information section and click in the following boxes so that a tick is displayed: Write an event to the system log and Automatically restart. For Windows Vista, left-click on the Start button, right-click on Computer and select Properties. Click on Advanced system settings on the left and click on continue in the UAC window. Click on the Settings button in Startup and Recovery and select the same options described above. Also note the location of the dump file. It should look like %SystemRoot%MEMORY.DMP

I failed to specify that the "crash" was a hardware failure - HD failed and backup drive was made useless by an incompetent tech. No records exist of dump. No file named "Memory.DMP" exists on drives today.

New drives and reloaded programs work fine. Downloads have installed fine, except for PSI.

One glich exists on Facebook/Mafia Wars where MSIE opens continuously forcing system shutdown. This is a rare occurance and linked to Mafia Wars pages.

Just another thought.....you hav'nt specified which browser you've been using for the downloads and which browser is set as your default browser...if any ? Although Secunia requires that the settings be adjusted in IE , your default browser can be another of your choosing. You may already be aware of this....but it may be worth firming up on ? Even if you have no further success this evening; the info will be available for Secunia in the morning. Regards

I'm not familiar with Windows2000, but does SP1 mean that it's up to date ? My IE version is 8.0.6001.18928.
I'm just wondering how long the down-time was between crash and trying to download psi again !

Mogs,

A few days or a week downtime. However, the version I had may have been last year's, or earlier. It worked fine and I had no issues. In fact, just before, I checked security and downloaded solutions/fixes.

Again, the crash was hardware.

Windows 2000 Professional and Server

Installing Windows 2000 Professional

When Windows 2000 first came out, I was very confused as to what to "disable" and what not to.
This is a summary of months of trial and error on a "home" network.

As I said before; I'm not familiar with Windows2000, but I found the above on the Black Viper site. I may be wrong, but it seems to suggest that your Operating System needs some attention.
Personally I'd be inclined to move up to the latest IE.

Hi,

To avoid problems with the "NSIS Errors", it is recommendable to clear your temporary internet files before downloading the installer. The error is caused by file corruption, occurring during downloading.

If this does not solve the problem, you may want to try another method, such as using a download manager or another browser.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, all. Yesterday, PSI installer downloaded a viable version. PSI is now installed.
A clean cache may have helped also.
