I had this issue under the previous version of Chrome, but decided not to report it as I knew there was an update coming out soon. However, I am now running Google Chrome 5.0.375.86 and Chrome shows up in neither the Patched nor the Secure Browsing tabs. The computer has been restarted and I have tried running a full scan with PSI. The path it is installed to is:

"C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

I am running a fully patched XP machine. From other threads, I gather that PSI should detect this app, but it is not showing up for me.

Hello Sam ,

How long have you been using PSI and which version are you using at the moment ??

Do "gears" show up in the "patched" tab ??

Anthony

Hello.
Maybe this is a really irrelevant and silly question.....tho' 'tis what comes to mind (!)......did you download Chrome from the official site ?

Regards.

I have Secunia PSI v1.5.0.2 installed. I got Chrome directly from Google's web site and use its internal update function to keep it up to date.

Hi

You might be running Google Chrome 6.x which is still in beta, and thus not detected by the Secunia PSI

I am running Chrome 5.0.375.86. Also, I did not read one of the questions through. I have used PSI for some time now: about a year, if I remember right. It shows as Secunia PSI v1.5.0.2.

The same version is detected on my test system, using the default installation path.

Could it be that the path is affected by a ignore rule by mistake?

The following are the paths set up as exceptions rules:

C:\Documents and Settings\
F:\Installs\
G:\Installs
C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe
F:\Cruzer\Apps\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\Fi refox\firefox.exe
F:\Cruzer\Apps\PortableApps\VLCPortable\App\vlc\vl c.exe

Chrome is set up here:

C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

Would the first rule exclude subdirectories?

"C:\Documents and Settings\" will include all sub-folders and that would explain why Chrome is not found anymore.

Correcting your rules should solve the issue

I removed the content that I had in that directory to a folder further down the tree and modified the rule. Chrome showed up at that point, but as an older version than I had installed. I checked the application's directory structure and found that it had left-over files from the previous version. Deleting the directory they were in caused PSI to recognize only the current version.

The only recommendation I can think to make is to let users know when establishing rules that they will apply to subdirectories as well as the directory specified in the rule itself. In other words, PSI was working as designed, but the operator should be made aware of this facet of the design.

Thanks for the help!

Sam

I've suggested some improvements for the "Ignore rules" feature, so we might add it in a future release.
