I downloaded the Adobe Reader 9.3.3 update that PSI provided installed it successfully and its still showing up on rescans. I have even restarted my computer and its still showing up as insecure.

Hi
I've had the same problem , installed the patch (9.3.3 for adobe reader 9 ) and secunia is still warning that the program is a security risk.
I then uninstalled the program and went directly to adobe to install the program from there, i searched for the latest version which is 9.3.2 so i installed that and then the patch via secunia but i still have the same program warning

any ideas

Hi

Could you confirm that you only have one version of Adobe Reader 9.x on the system?
(not one in "Insecure" and one in "Patched"

What is the filepath to the insecure file?

What version of the PSI are you running?

I dont see one in the patched section but it is the only thing in insecure section keeping me at 99%.

C:/Program Files/Adobe/ Reader 9.0/Acrord32.exe

PSI version 1.9.0.0 with the auto update

What happens if you try the PSI Auto-Update feature?

Does it loop? or does it fail?

You can also manually, rightclick the "insecure" file and see the file informaion in the properties.
Does it have the correct version?

no adobe file in the patched field, only in the insecure field,
same file destination C:\program files\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\AcreRd32.exe
adobe version detected 9.3.2.163

my version of secunia is 1.5.0.2 ?
when i checked with secunia here
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...
it appears to be the latest version,
jckinnick has 1.9.0.0 ?

We have a PSI 2.0 (Technical Preview) with Auto-Updates Available for testing.
In case you're interested, you can find the link in the first post in this thread:

About the Adobe Reader 9.x issue:
Do you by change have a localized version of Adobe Reader? (non-english)

That explains that then, thanks
i'll stick with the latest version, i know my way around a pc but i'm not quite up to testing software,

As for the adobe problem it's the English version, well i presume it is, it came from the adobe site in English with no options for localization, just a strait download

@jckinnick didn't mean to hijack your thread, but hopefully were all heading in the same direction

To everyone having problems with Adobe Reader---
Here is a solution if you want to try it, "PDF Exchange Viewer" by Tracker Software. This is also a free program and it gives you the option to purchase an upgraded version if you wish, but I found the free-be to be sufficient for my needs. PDF Exchange Viewer works so good for me that I have done a "clean uninstall" of Adobe Reader. The vulnerabilities of Adobe Reader are gone and so are all my PDF problems. It works with both IE8 and FoxFire. The download link is below:

http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchang...

I hope this info will help everyone who has PDF and Adobe Reader problems.

Best regards,

JJS

In the auto updates under Adobe Reader 9 it says "update scheduled"

When i manually click on the files properties to see what version it is it says "9.3.2.163".

Also while looking in the Adobe file i saw a file fore Adobe Reader 8. Could that be the problem?

I just looked at the Adobe Reader program that is on my desktop to see what version it says it is and it says 9.3.2. Thats strange it automatically updated the other day and when i check for updates it says no updates available. Maybe i just need to uninstall that version and reinstall 9.3.3. And in Revo uinstaller it says under new programs Adobe Reader 9.3.3.

Also if you remember there was an Adobe file that i changed the name of about a month ago.

Update:

The program name is PDF-XChange by Tracker Software and it does work in both IE and FIREFOX. Sorry about the mis-spelling.

I used a program i have called Revo Uninstaller and uninstalled Adobe Reader and then reinstalled and that fixed it. I don't know how the old program updated updated but was still the old version but i uninstalled it anyway. I also deleted that old folder that said Adobe Reader 8 on it, there was nothing inside of it anyway.

I've uninstalled adobe reader using Revo Uninstaller (that's a very neat program jckinnick thanks) and it seems to have done the trick, reinstalled adobe reader and all appears ok

I usually use the uninstall feature in ccleaner but it seems it only uses the program's own uninstall, much the same as add and remove program in windows, whereas Revo goes looking for any leftover fragments of the program and gives the option to delete the lot.

just a thought, but would it be too much like hard work for adobe to have a previous version uninstaller as part of the update patches, seem little point in having patches if it still leaves the problem.

I had the same problem as described by others.

Only solution that worked was to uninstall using Revo Pro uninstaller. MS and Acrobat unistallers did not get rid of all the files.

Then do a clean install from Adobe site of 9.3.3
