Secunia News (to the right) outlined problems 3 weeks ago in the item "Microsoft Windows helpctr.exe Unofficial Hotfix Inadequate"

I see that the WINDOWS XP Support system is back in the news again, this time because hackers have now started attacks for real:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10473495.stm

MS have introduced a work-around to disable the vulnerable part of the system, until a proper fix is put in place:

I had no problems downloading this workaround but a friend says he couldn't download it!

How about you?

PS Will hacking these vulnerabilities be picked up/stopped by the 'standard' firewall/internet protection software?

Hello Taffy078,
No problems here to download the fix using Windows XP's firewall & free version of Avira's anti-virus software.
I have not installed the fix; since the Help and Support Center-service is already switched off on my PC.
Have a nice day,
Websafe.
