Hi,

I have just reformated my computer(windows vista home premium) and have reloaded secunia. While i was updating and patching the programs on my computer i kept being prevented using the down load solution option by windows data execution prevention. I had to go to the internet sites and manually update them. I have never had this problem before using secunia.

please could some one help?

Thanks

paul.

Paul,
U may need to tweak Vista as outlined here:

Hi, Thanks for you advice but i can't understand why data execution prevention has just started to block downloading the relevent updates now when i have have never had a problem before. It just seems strange as i can down those updates from there web sites and not through secunia. Would it be that I.E 8 is blocking them? I would prefer to not have to tweak DEP if possible.

Cheers.

Paul.

Are U using PSI V 1.9.0.0. If not it can be installed from here:
http://secunia.com/PSISetupAUTP.exe

Have U set up IE as explained in the FAQ?

http://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/faq/#s3

Are U running with privileges?

To install and run the Secunia PSI you will need administrative privileges.

Hi Maurice,

Yes i am running with administration priviledges. I didn't have the latest secunia as i thought and have just down loaded it. Also have checked IE8 settings and have adjusted to suit as recommened by secunia.

I don't need to patch any programs at the moment so i can't tell if it my problem is resolved.

Thank you again for you advice.

Paul,
Another one U might like to check.

CONNECTING TO THE SECUNIA SERVER
================================

Try this:

http://secunia.com/products/consumer/PSI/faq/#s3

U may also wish to check this setting:

Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Security>Check for server certificate revocation.

The Secunia SSL certificate is signed by Thawte. If the Thawte site is not accessible from the computer or this option is selected, then PSI will fail to connect to Secunia. Just remove the tick (check mark) against “Check for server certificate revocation".

If this post has solved your problem could you please select the ACCEPT option. This will lock the thread and stop you & I from receiving unnecessary update emails.

Revision 5.

If I can add a thought about what might be going on here.

Some older Internet Explorer addons would not work with DEP enabled. Internet Explorer 8 was the first to have DEP enabled by default. If you have done a factory reset or reinstalled old programs, you might have a problem until you get everything up to date.

Does Problem Reports and Solutions indicate which Application and module are implicated? If Internet Explorer is involved, try disabling Addons and see if that helps.
