Does PSI check all updates on my computer? Im looking for a program that will check all programs on my computer for updates. Its getting kind of tedious to go through every program on my computer and check for updates.

Hi,

The PSI has one of the most comprehensive program coverages of any updating application. Any application not covered can be "suggested" in the PSI itself, and we will then add the software to our database.

However, the PSI is not a general update checker. The PSI doesn't aim to notify you of general patches/bugfixes/etc, as it is a security update checker. The PSI will notify you if an old version of a program is installed on your system, placing you in risk, and attempt to provide aid in remedying the issues.

hope this helps.

Hello.
psi checks all the progs that you've put forward for monitoring. If you find a prog on your computer that it doesn't...you can suggest it to Secunia.......see the lower part of the Insecure, End of Life, Patched and Secure Browsing tabs, for......Program missing ? Suggest it here.
There is now an Auto Update version of psi available which is in it's "beta" stage.
At the moment, only a few progs can be ticked for auto update....the remainder continue to be dealt with in the familiar way. If you wish to try it...see here :- http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/444...
You may also find the FAQ's a help :-http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

there are several 'pay for' programs but have you tried this free one?

http://filehippo.com/updatechecker/

(Perhaps it's a taster for a 'pay for' version!)

Hi jckinnick;

It has been my experience the update informants are more work than they are worth. I haven't tried any for awhile, Filehippo and Cnet I have never tried. They might work great, you should try for yourself and decide.

PSI is the exception, but it is limited to vulnerability related patches & updates. It takes care of notifying you when action is needed very well. The new TP (Technology Preview) even updates (some) programs for you.

There are various reasons not to set 'automatic updates' to on. (Mine is a slow internet connection.) For whatever reason you have, might I suggest the way I do it?

> Let PSI do what it does so well.
> Handle security updates as notified.
> Have a 'maintenance day' with Microsoft Update.
> Also, update often used programs then.
> Run any 'cleaners', 'scanners', a defrag and etc. that you use.

Do these on a day you don't need to use the computer. When you pass by, just start the next item on your list and go do something else.

> Update seldom used programs as needed.
> Every few months, remove programs you never use.

Regards;

Fred
