Can't complete a scan this morning. All other aspects of psi appear to be functioning normally. Scan gets to stage 3 or thereabouts and comes to a halt. Have aborted after a few minutes of waiting each time...tho' that too seems to cycle 'tween Responding and Not Responding. Tried running on four occasions. Any ideas anybody ? Thanks.

Hi, both.

My scan just now worked fine. But I did notice it was on Step 3 (5%) for about a minute and on Step 4 (68%) for over 5 minutes, out of a total scan time of 7 mins 40 secs.

This is a bit longer than previously but I put it down to the number of files on my desktop.

Just managed to complete a scan.....tho' it took 9mins 39 secs !!! Normally it's about 2mins 50 secs.
In Task Manager...Processes....psi.exe CPU and Mem. activity: In Applications, Secunia psi, at first Running then Not Running but restarted. CPU fluctuated between 10 and 40% approx. Is that of any help Maurice ? Thanks

Thanks taffy......you must be running a lot more software than me I think. Whereas I've probably got less than the average for a lappy and Secunia....

Just had another go.....getting better.
Still the same cycle tho'.....Running/Not/Running.
Stopped at Step3 after 1.38 secs...restarted after just over a minute....time jumped to about 2.50 secs, and continued with Step 3. CPU stayed a bit lower....5 to 35% approx.
Completed scan in 7.41secs.
Last time I still had my browser page open......normally I do scans...reg/defrag etc., with nothing else running......which is what I've done this time....but still nowhere near normal service.

Have you paid your electricity bill, Mogs?

PS I know Mogs will understand that this is a light-hearted, end-of-the-week comment! ;0)

No - all U have really confirmed is that your PC is in & out of the not responding mode.

What does the Performance Monitor say in Control Panel? There might be help there if the problem does not correct itself.

I've spent the last few hours doing my normal weekly maintenance/housekeeping .......
and more.......a day earlier than usual. Completed four psi scans at various intervals...tho' the overall scan time reduced at each.....the constant was the step at which it stopped..3 of 8. That being the case until I'd completed another defrag; after which it ran as normal and finished in 2.20 secs on the fourth scan.
I remembered earlier that I'd also changed my power setting to Balanced from High Performance...so reverted and rebooted....tho' it really seemed to be the second of two defrags that set things to rights again.
I've got a boot-time defrag scheduled for the morning;so hopefully I'll confirm everything is okay after that.

All okay this morning. Scheduled BTD ran as expected, and the psi scanned to 100% in 3 mins without a hitch. I guess I'll not be so strict and rigid with my 7day maintenance routine in future....prevent the glitches with the occasional six, six, six !!!! Oops....I'm repeating myself again !!!

Morning Maurice !
Well, Puran does do what I set it to do....scheduled or unplanned. I've been more haphazard with regard to running psi. Because I was at home yesterday it got run on a Friday....more usually it would have been today after the BTD....so the hitch/glitch I might not have become aware of.
Yep....Puran seems to be happy on my little lappy.....exactly how it would perfom on more celebrated machines, I wouldn't like to say.
It is still the case that CPU is higher in the first half of the optimization stage...tho' not as high as when I first installed...and not high enough for concern. Defrag/filling gaps/freeing spaces....all the other stages....CPU seems quite low.
As you know...I discovered that Vista uses the Shadow Copy facility which I havn't enabled .
I get to see at a glance the last defrag report and can toggle between that and the cluster map....I havn't shown that on a browser page tho' it's available.
I rarely run it in the background.....it is so sensitive and unobtrusive....it would seem to run forever ! I prefer to run/see/get the job done. All this and more, and the magic word...Free !!
