sorry - no Fred - the paratset'em all.

{I hope that paracetamol is sold throughout the world! ;0) }

PS what's next? Emil & Morten will be busy! Do you think Secunia will introduce Image Verification Codes next for new member's sign-on? Would that be expensive for them to do?

Author: Normally, if you google/bing the name of the author of such posts, you'll find that he/she/it has posted similar all over the internet. Not this time. "Seedorf" is a Dutch footballing celebrity - having paged though all those, I couldn't find anything for this Seedorf.

website: I see that superpillhealthrx is on many spam domain blacklists, so they must be a very active p.i.t.a.

What happened now is just sabotaging a forum. That must be stopped.
A very good idea to avoid advertisements to implement verification codes.
Better is maybe a verification code at the moment someone starts a thread or
responds to a reply.

The point is, that the vast majority of visitors to the forum make no commitment to it: they're oft only interested in resolving their problem and don't even close a thread, or "say" thankyou....and many are not even relative to a reported vulnerabilty....let alone achieving a 100% score and showing it. It's slack in attitude . It's supposed to be a security orientated forum...and yet not doing any vetting of members. We are not going from strength to strength.

Well done Secunia for removing the dozens of pharmaceutical adverts so quickly! :0)

When I've read about the two critiques rule it came into my mind that it could also lower the quality of reviews as well. If someone is a newcomer not only to the forum but also to writing stories then they might be unable to provide a decent critique because they don't have a good knowledge of writing yet. That's my case.
Therefore people might provide critique just because they have to and that probably won't end up well.

sorry miceyi - I completely missed your earlier post on this thread.

I have to be honest and say that I don't understand your post - which of the above posts was it about?

From your other posts today, it seems to me that you have a good knowledge of PCs so please be patient with me & explain it for me in a bit more detail, please!

It's been a long day!

Thank you and regards

Hi;

Leendert Kip says it best. This is tantamount to sabotage and needs to be stopped. If the annoying image/code thing will help, I think we would all put up with it. Taffy Googled Seedorf (or is it Seedork, sorry, may be too American, dork = nerd or jerk) and found he/she/it is new. The time interval between post suggests this was not automated spam. If that's the case, a image/code would not stop it.

Thanks Secunia for picking up the trash.

@miceyi, welcome. If I'm correct, you speak of a common topic (is a post relevant or not). Your statement above is a very interesting point, that I do not believe has been brought up.

@taffy, I was about to end this thread, but as you've asked a question, I will await a reply.

Fred

good point about 'critique' Fred - it meant something entirely different to me - UK English and all that.

Yeh - it was Seedorf***. Not having those threads here now means we can't look at the actual times they were posted but I still feel that IVCs will at least stop all the other adverts.

But let's see what miceyi says.

***EDIT: PS it was also the website mentioned in my post 9th Aug, 2010 04:36 that was important. Does Secunia use any Spam Domain Blacklist software - (google it) - that would have stopped all these attacks?

(Which is why I am satisfied that that post of mine WAS relevant.)

PPS - would whoever has scored my posts negatively (again) have the courage to tell me why, so that I can learn from my "error". Feel free to email me via the Secunia Support team.

I did give two points each to Leendert Kip & miceyi. I thought they both had excellent points. However, I do not see the need for 'point giving' (+ or -) on a thread such as this. I started it to vent frustration at all the pill adverts. The discussion that followed was repeats (for the most part) of things already said.

I will wait for miceyi to respond to taffy awhile longer.

But that is exactly @miceyi's point !!

You either accept anonymous , subjective opinoins by review (as in critique***) or you don't ; but if one is given the chance of a critique (thumb up or down) , many will take it however experienced they may be ; this/that kind of "subjective judgement" cannot be qualified .

If you post , expect a critique and why on earth ask for a justification when one think's one has been slighted or someone disagrees with you - that's the modus operandi .

Personally , I measure my performance by other posters' arguments and comments - much as I consider theirs ; it has absolutely noting to do with voting and so I don't - with few exceptions .

Chasing tails again .

Anthony

@Fred
What started out as a very nice two liner has developed. Now time to train your double barrel shotgun at other advertising links!

@Anthony

Got it in one. One hopes points scored either way are judged on an individual helpers attempts to provide a safe & workable solution which solves the issue as quickly as possible. Not always possible hence the point fluctuations from different viewpoints.

Nif Naf,waffle,hi-jacks & "double speak" create a negative impact & it looks like the scores match that.

This is also an interesting new feature.

Feel free to email me via the Secunia Support team.

I was unaware that Secunia Support acted as conduit for relaying emails?

Perhaps U could test it and send me an email. Given that I have never authorised them to release any of my data outside their clearly defined Privacy Statement I would hope it would fail. My understanding is that any correspondence to Secunia is Confidential unless the originator personally authorises onward transmission.

It could be a new feature I have not heard of before that is being tested ready for the release of version 2?

Hello Maurice ,

Am just off out , so will try now and check later .

Hopefully Fred will leave this thread open for a while longer .

1)I use Google for all my mail , so knowing your principles will not be offended if you do not use it/reply direct - your spamlocker might collect/block it , depending on whether it's in a Secunia envelope.

2)I cannot find any reference in the PSI or the Secunia website to their conduit , so will run it freestyle past support .

I do know what a critique is - as I said to miceyi, I couldn't place it in the context of this, which is why I asked him/her for some more info.

I do try hard not to say the 'wrong' thing, which is why I asked to be emailed because I honestly had no idea what I had said that caused issues - especially this one: 9th Aug, 2010 09:12.

Perhaps I should have been blunt in this one: 9th Aug, 2010 04:36 - and expressed surprise that Secunia appears not to use a Spam Domain blacklist filter.
Perhaps I should not have referred to the 'dozens of adverts'.
Perhaps the - scores were given by someone who hadn't even seen all the adverts!

I emailed the Secunia web team at 3 a.m. (here) to tell them what had happened as I was concerned about the clear attack, and the possibility of more.

Anyway, that's all from me. I care more about the forum than to make specific sarcastic/caustic comments about fellow members. Some comments are best made in emails.

Hi all;

Hmmm... I believe I will have an analgesic, for the drumbeats are giving me a headache!

I logged on two evenings ago to have a look around before bed time. I do this, when possible, to make sure there are no threads (that I can help with) unanswered overnight. I was surprised, finding so many adverts. As has been suggested, I have been slow to comment, especially regarding any with even the slightest reference to computers or IT. This was obviously spam. Absolutely nothing but the use of space on the forum for advertising. Secunia apparently agrees, as it was completely removed.

My, late night, whimsical sarcasm aside, this is something to be discussed (rehashed?) amongst other subjects raised. I will leave this thread open until interest is lost.

@taffy, It is what it is, as they say. My suggestion, leave it lay.

@Ant, I agree. The last part is of interest also, as miceyi has no 'dog in the hunt'.

@Maurice, one doesn't realize how big the balloon can get until they begin to blow! I'm out of shells, could you spare a few? (tongue in cheek)

Nosocomial "runs" from NDM-1 carrying E.coli could be fatal for the weak and the old (reduced immune system) and would lead down the toilet at the very least ; much the same direction as to where this thread seems to be heading .

Time to load and lock , Fred . Heads down and mind the flying %@ .

I'm out of here already .

Take good care
