Windows 7 64 bit with all updates Java 6 update 21 (build 1.6.0_21-b07) Google Chrome 5.0.375.127 with these extensions Embed WMPlayer inline - Version: 1.1.2 IE Tab - Version: 1.4.30.4 Xmarks Bookmark and Password Sync - Version: 0.8.52 Runs OSI, tells how many checked, howman need updates, etc. Will not display the list of programs. Doesn't matter whether I tell it to display all or only ones needing fixed. This has been happening for a while. Works with Explorer or ie tab on and Firefox Things tried: Cleared cache rebooted uninstalled Java and reloaded Thanks in advance, |

| Hi, The PSI depends on a working installation of Java. Which results do this page display? http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml |

Hi from me , I am using 7.0.503.0 Dev version of Chrome ; I currently get a message from Chrome saying that the "Java plugin" has failed when I try to load OSI . If I force the situation I can see that the Java applet has loaded and can run the scan , there is a zero fault massage and the scan starts and the clock runs but everything else remains unmoved . This is the first time OSI has not run in Chrome for a considerable time - I only updated to U21 a couple or 3 weeks ago . The Java site shows me with U21 and today gave me a "Java plugin" failure message but the test completed OK and Java ran . My bank site which requires Java runs and displays correctly (in all browsers) . Anthony EDIT 1: just tried OSI again ; same "plugin U21 failure" message at load and again at run . This time the Java applet failed to load and showed different failure message . EDIT 2 : reran Java test and got the "plugin not responsive" message this time ; reran the test and it worked correctly and no message !! EDIT3 : Java test shows "not responsive message" and then shows Java version working and masks the message , it still demands if I wish to close the plugin or not ; if I say no the message closes and then immediately reappears : If I click yes the test also closes fails . This parallels OSI where the applet can be forced but the scan stops/does not complete at varying stages - the clock runs , but the programme does not always respond to the "stop" button and needs a forced Chrome tab close . Might try to go back to U20 to see if that helps , if I can find time ; As OSI runs OK in Firefox , IE and IE tab of Chrome , so no big deal/rush for me , atm . -- It always seems impossible until its done. Update to previous entry: I clicked your check site. It says Java is working and the latest version. So I went to my Vista system with all Windows updates. It doesn't work there with Chrome either. I don't usually run on Vista because I use PSI, but lately PSI keeps dying with a fatal error according to Vista, usually after it hibernates. No other program that I am running dies. Just PSI. Chrome is my default browser on both systems. It works correctly in Explorer and Firefox. |

I've never tried running OSI before, but have just completed two scans using both my Chrome versions. I just had the " Display only insecure progs" ticked for the first scan with Chrome canary build....completed in 3.5 mins approx. Ticked both boxes for scan with Chrome dev.....seemed very thorough (!)...taking 33.5 mins approx. Using Java update 21. -- |

This is not a problem of the program running. It doesn't display the programs that are out of date. Did you have any out of date software? Did it display a list at the bottom with click points to download the updates? That is what is not working in chrome. |

Hi All , Mogs , have you run the Java website test ?? With both boxes unticked the "normal" scan is between one and two minutes (my latest one using Chrome + IE tab )?? Do you see any plug-in stopped/failure messages popped-up by Chrome (or at least a Chrome style box/window) at any time ?? Anthony -- It always seems impossible until its done. Nelson Mandela |

Just completed another OSI scan successfully, using Chrome dev. Unticked both boxes....scan completed in 3.18 secs. Programs detected displayed underneath. PS....no error/failure messages displayed at any time. -- |

OK , here's what I have done ; Bear in mind I'm on XP SP3 . 1)Last java update I used Ff as the download browser and it got it's own U21 installer -called jxpinstall-rv.exe. 2)Went to Java.com in Chrome just now and asked for free download and got the installer - this was marked for Chrome as 6U21.exe. 3)Ran it and it asked if I wanted to replace the same version ->agreed . Uninstall and reinstall shown real time by the PSI . At one time the installer seemed to say it was U20 , but U21 is installed and the same NPRuntime....Display files (times 2) showed up in the Chrome plug-in viewer as before . 4)Ran Java test - no pop-ups - U21 confirmed . 5)Loaded OSI scan in Chrome - no pop-ups . 6)Ran scan with both boxes not checked (I have no insecure programmes atm) and successfully completed in 2 mins 30secs - as opposed to 1 min 40+ secs in IE tab. Recently I have been updating Java with Chrome browser , Ff wanted to get U21 for now apparent reason some 3 weeks ago and naturally I used it to do the download . I have absolutely no idea whatsoever as to the difference between the installers except for the name*** - could be a few more out there with the problem I'm guessing :(( EDIT*** : There is a 1ko difference in download size - Ff is bigger and the version of Ff ends in 7 and Chrome in 73 . See if it helps froehle . Thanks Mogs . Anthony -- It always seems impossible until its done. Nelson Mandela |

Anthony, On both Vista sp2 and Win 7 pro, my Java was Version 6 Update 21 (build 1.6.0_21-b07) from Control Panel >Java >About I downloaded the new version using Chrome and forced it to replace it. The file was C:\Users\Paul\Downloads\chromeinstall-6u21.exe I get the same result 9 files found 1 insecure 8 patched. No list of what files or the updates. I then went to Firefox Tried to download Java and was told I already had the latest version. My only option was to download the full edition for another computer (15 mb) I got this file C:\Users\Paul\Downloads\jre-6u21-windows-i586-s.ex This forced install gave me the same version. Same results. I don't know if your version 30 was the one that worked, but I don't know how to get it. Thanks for your time to figure this out. |

| Hi, I have confirmed this issue with Chrome 5.x in relation to Java JRE 1.6.x. Thank you for reporting it, I will make sure all the information you have provided here will reach our developers. In the mean time, I suggest you either down-grade to update 20 (Since update 21 does not contain any security fixes), or use another browser. hope this helps. |

Hello Paul and Emil , Chrome is now version 6 in both the Beta and Stable channels :- http://googlechromereleases.blogspot.com/ I think 5 should now show as insecure in the PSI . I loaded/used the same Chrome installer u21 that you have Paul , see if it (or a new download from Java.com using 6) works in 6 - I get the programme files displayed ; note that Mogs and I use the Dev channel version 7 with no current difficulties and Mogs is flying blind on the bleeding edge with his Canary overnight builds . Let us know how you go . Anthony -- It always seems impossible until its done. Nelson Mandela |
