I am running VLC media player 1.1.4 but it is consistently identified by PSI as and incsecure. I have downloaded and reinstalled the updated version several times and run PSI after doing so.

Program path = "J:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe"

Is VLC simply an insecure program, regardless of the version, or just the earlier versions? Why doesn't PSI identify the correct installed version?

What version of psi are you using ?
Generally, whenever you update a prog., the older version/file will get left behind. It is often that which Secunia will continue to detect, even if still residing in the Recycle bin.
If you look in the Patched tab do you see a version of VLC present ?

Having tested this, I can conclude that a new installation of VLC Media Player 1.1.4 shows up correctly in the PSI.

If you are using Secunia PSI 1.x, please set it to "Advanced Mode", by clicking "Advanced" in the top right corner.

Do you have an entry for VLC in both the Insecure and Patched tabs? In that case, it is very likely that the version you have installed on the J:\ drive is a backup, or old leftover, that the new version of VLC didn't remove (since it isn't installed in the default location).

hope this helps.
