Hello
When trying to update to Java 6 update 21 I get an error that jre1.6.0_13-c.msi cannot be found to continue with the uninstallation. There is a file in the folder called jre1.6.0_13.msi.
Other discussions on this site & others recommned the Windows Install Clean Up Utility however Microsoft have removed this tool as they say it is unreliable.

Regards

Peter,
Have U got any versions of JRE,JSE,JDK or JAVA(TM) in Control Panel>add/remove.

If so uninstall them & try again.

If nobody else has a better idea, the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is still available here:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-clean...

Use at your own risk. Backup your data at least before proceeding.

Hi
I have two mentions of Java in add/remove programs;
1) Java 2 Runtime Enviroment, SE v1.4.2_03
When I highlight this there is no option to remove
2) Java (TM) 6 Update 13
When I select remove I get the error message I mentioned above.

I don't know what to do next. I couldn't undrstand the link of yours that the other contributor mentioned.

Regards
Peter

Have you tried/looked at Revouninstaller ? At uninstall it checks for any leftover files/registry entries....it also has a Junk File cleaner and other useful tools.
Hope this helps....regards,

PS download....free or Pro version.....available from :-

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility will probably work.

Try downloading from here
http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-Windows-Install...

Ignore all the adverts on the page and just download the program (which has the least prominent 'download now' button)

Revo Unistaller looks like a neat bit of software. Unfortunatley it doesn't see Jave 6 Update 13 which wont uninstall from the control panel.

Peter,
The Windows Clean Up tool works with all variants of Windows.

Just download it from either site given to U by @ddmarshall.

Once U open the programme scroll up & down & look for both JAVA entries.

Select them one at a time.

Taking care U have only highlighted Java go to the bottom & select REMOVE

Once U have removed both entries do a full PSI rescan. Your problems should be history.

I have just zapped Java on this PC using the programme. Works like a dream.

It worked using the uninstaller from Softpedia that ddmarshall mentioned first. I removed all traces of Java and then successfully installed v6 Update 21.

Thanks to all for your advice.
