Hello.
Your querie/problem is worded somewhat confusedly....could you give more detail: enlarge on what you are trying to do ?
Are you trying to download an update ?
What version of psi are you using ? What's your Operating System ?
Here are a couple of links to threads you may find it worthwhile reading thro', and possibly bookmarking for future reference :-
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal... FAQ's
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...
HOW IT WORKS
Hope it's of some help.............regards,

@mogs - hi mogs - my take on this (rightly or wrongly), when I read it, was that he was trying to Download Solution (from PSI), which in turn opened in IE (default?), which would then subsequently crash.
But you're right - clarification and additional info. is required.

But ..... in the meantime, @search656, before this specific problem is solved, if you need to update any insecure programs consider this:

- the crash may be related to PSI connection problems (see the links in the above reply);

- for now, bypass downloading solutions from PSI, and go direct to the vendor site (using your browser) to download the latest updates;

- or (depending on program), you can "Check for Updates" (from Help menu) from within the open program;

-or use Windows/Microsoft Update (from All Programs in Start), if it's a M$ problem.

Morning TiMow....thanks for your take on it......between us, hopefully, there's enough for 656 to work on.
BTW ( irrelevant to this thread), but have you noticed the Stable/Beta Chrome release....last post CClip ?

Hi mogs - was just reading it as the e-mail pop up appeared - thanks - will blow the cobwebs of the Chrome shortcut and see what's what.

Hi,

Are you running the Internet Explorer 9 Beta? Since this version is still in beta, it is currently not supported, and several issues have been reported. If this is the case, I suggest you down-grade to IE8 until the worst of the problems are ironed out.

If you aren't running the IE9 Beta, have you deployed all patches offered by Microsoft Update? If not, I suggest you install all patches marked as "critical".
Either way, a reboot might correct the problem, so I suggest you do so.

Which programs were you trying to patch? Until we have you up N' running again, I could post the links to the patches the PSI would have provided you with under optimal circumstances.

hope this helps.

Thank you.
I am running Windows7 and I have PSI v1.5.0.2
When I try and run the link to the patch in PSI (the little down-arrow icon), IE opens then crashes.
Do you need more information?

Can you confirm whether or not IE8 OR IE9 Beta is your default browser ? Whether or not you are running another also ?
Have you checked your settings in IE are configured correctly as per instructions in the FAQ's ?:-

Have you checked that your settings in IE are correct as per the instructions from the first link, in the first reply (from @mogs)?

The following additional info. would also help:

Which version of IE are you using and is crashing?

and

Which programs are you trying to update (with full version numbers, if possible)?

TiMow

EDIT: hi mogs -crossed again.

I am running IE8 and I adjusted the security settings as per the FAQ. It still crashed IE. It actually says" IE has stopped working" with no explanation.

IE8 (or any version of IE for that matter) crashes if you sneeze at it. I have found that Microsoft leaves behind junk that causes more problems than any other 100 vendors combined. When I did trial for MS Office then declined and followed instructions to remove (Open Office just as good and is free), it took hours to find the solution on some MS forum and the solution has since caused problems. It is never ending with them. Maybe I do believe in conspiracy theories. LOL, sort of.

Touchy subject, here on the forum sometimes....do you use a registry scanner to check for errors......presumeably; ( thinking aloud); if you do, you've already tried that ?
Have you run CHKDSK recently to verify cosistency on the disc ?

The other thing that comes to mind.....were you/did you have IE8 set as default browser at the time and before you installed psi version 1.5.0.2 ? I've found that, making sure old versions of psi are completely removed/cleaned/defragged before installing can help also. In your position, I think that's what I'd be inclined towards.

Have a look in Problem Reports and Solutions. It might give you a clue to the module which is crashing.

You know, I ended up uninstalling PSI. I started having other problems with IE8 since installing PSI. I decided it wasn't worth it.
Thank you for trying to help me.

Hi,

The PSI does not change any settings on your system relating to your browsers. If there is a crash when using Internet Explorer, that is solely caused by Internet Explorer.

However, please be aware that the PSI depends on a working installation of Windows, and a working installation of IE. Without these things, your system cannot support the PSI in any version.

I'm sure I dont understand how PSI works but since installing PSI, IE8 has been crashing. I have a brand new computer with all of the latest updates. ONLY after installing PSI did IE8 crash.
I am not a computer expert in any way so I cant really explain why but this it what happened.
Thanks!
