I am a long time user of PSI, and just tried to update to 2.0 beta today by clicking on the 2.0 beta link on the web site. When I installed, it first uninstalled my old version and then installed the new 2.0 beta version. Now when it runs, it just puts up box in the middle of the PSI window that says "Please wait while network connectivity is verified".

right clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting "About" for some reason shows it to be version 1.9.0.3007. I also tried "Reload interface" but this did not help.

Not sure where to go next other then to downgrade.

I am running Win XP SP3

Hello.
Have you checked your configurations/settings agree with those in the FAQ's shown here :-
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal... FAQ's
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...
HOW IT WORKS
I've found that it's best to have set IE as the default browser at the time of the install of psi, and to keep it as such...until successful.....when you can then revert to another browser of your choosing, if so required.
Have you recently changed to IE9 Beta perhaps ?

Hi,

Please verify that all your settings corrospond to those described in this item of our FAQ: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal...

has changing your Internet Explorer settings as described, and reloading the interface, solved the problem?

Hi all,
thanks for the replies. Both pointed to the same FAQ section. I tried making all the changes listed, and completely exited Internet explorer and PSI and restarted, but it did not help.

Note: Prior to updating to the 2.0 beta version, everything was working fine without making any of the changes suggested (like adding the two secunia lines to the trusted sites, and taking off the verification options).

I even tried to go back to the last released version, but it still does not work. So I guess something that the beta version did to my computer has messed things up.

If you have any other suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I decided to try and make sure it was really uninstalled, so I did the following:

1. Used Add/Remove programs to uninstall
2. In Registry editor, I removed the following keys that were still present:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Secunia

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Management\ARPCache\Secunia PSI (RC3)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Secunia

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1482476501-1644491937-83952211 5-1004\Software\Secunia

3. Deleted a bunch of *.tmp files in Deleted all files in: C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI (although I did this while attempting another install so they may have been from the install.

4. Install was unsuccessful possibly because of step 3, so uninstalled again from add/remove programs

5. Didn't see C:\Program Files\Secunia\PSI after this though.

6. Downloaded the current version 1.5.0.2 from web site and let it install.

7. Now when I startup, I get a different error: "Unable to retrieve PSI user ID from Secunia ... Please verify that you are ablt to connect to https://psi.secuina.com/ and then restart the PSI. ..."

9. I tried pinging https://psi.secuina.com and http://psi.secuina.com :

Pinging https://psi.secunia.com [213.150.41.226] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

10. Tried entering https://psi.secuina.com into my web browser and it timed out.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thanks

Okay,
I decided to try searching on the new error message. I found some other recent posts with this problem, and one person talked about interference from his virus scanner. At that point, I noticed that I didn't see the virus scanner icon in my system tray, so I rebooted and now PSI 1.5.0.2 now appears to work okay on my computer.

Note: It was a couple of days ago that I first tried to download the beta, so I'm not sure if I had exited my Norton security suite while trying to debug the problem, or if it died for some reason.

So at this point, I am no longer attempting to run the beta (I'll just wait until it gets released), and am succesfully running 1.5.0.2.

Thank you.

Hello again.
Well, it does seem that you have finished up one of the lucky XP users, as lots have finally reverted to the 1.5.0.1 version.
I notice tho' that you havn't mentioned what was your default browser at the time you were carrying out the installs. I did mention that I'd found it best to have IE8 as default, and configured as per the FAQ's.....whilst you do refer to the matter, you don't confirm that the settings were exact at that time.
If indeed you are now set up and satisfied...feeling the problem resolved....could you please lock/close the thread by pressing Accept, as it will save you and I receiving reminder e mails and prevent tag -on posts to the thread. Thankyou..........regards,

Hi,
yes IE8 is my default browser.

As far as the settings, no mine did not match exactly. To make them match the FAQ, I did the following:

1. Added the two secunia addresses to my list of trusted sites
2. Unchecked the option "Require Server Verification (https) for all site zones"
3. Unchecked the option "Check for server certificate revocation"

Please note though that none of these changes had any effect on the problem.

Also, a complete uninstall and attempting to remove remaining entries in both the file system and the registry also did not help (see previous posts).

It was not until I noticed that my virus scanner was not running and rebooted that secunia started working again.

So its very possible that that was the entire problem to begin with.
