keep getting error message
can't find macromedia flash

If I search all files there are 12 folders with macromedia in them, all within the documents and setting folders. Some do not allow a manual delete.

1. want to get rid of the error message re-occurring.
2. how to get rid of the rest of the items w/out creating problems since I am assuming they should have gone away since flash is now an adobe product.

thanks for any help.

Although Adobe have taken over Macromedia, the Macromedia name is still used. Flash Player is installed in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed and (in Vista at least) there is a Macromedia folder in the hidden AppData\Roaming folder.

Exactly when do you get the error message?

This answer is provided “as-is.” You bear the risk of using it.

REMOVE OLD ADOBE (FORMERLY MACROMEDIA) OCX FILES.

If Flash was running when an update was attempted it will not remove all of the old (and vulnerable) files.

To remove these files:

COMPLETELY EXIT (using Task Manager if necessary:

a. All Browsers.
b. Windows Messenger.
c. Incredimail.
d. All Adobe products
e. PSI unless using Version 2 BETA.

Now navigate to here:

32 Bit Systems - C:\Windows\system32\Macromedia\Flash

64 Bit Systems - C:\Windows\sysWOW64\Macromedia\Flash

In these locations U may well find these entries:
FLASH10h or i.OCX - Right click & delete it/them.

FLASH10k.OCX - The latest version which should be retained.

I tried your solution: shutting down browser, psi, messenger, etc. Still got "access denied" when I tried to delete flash10i.ocx. Even tried a safe boot to command prompt to minimize services load and tried to delete the file via command line. Still got "access denied." Any thoughts?

Are U absolutely sure all the programmes I list have been EXITED & not just closed?

That includes PSI prior to version 2 BETA.

Yes. No applications are running. There are no programs showing on the task bar tray. The only services running are whatever gets loaded for a Safe boot without networking. I have uninstalled Flash player. The only files left in the directory are Flash10i.ocx and the install log.

Try the Flash uninstaller from here:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

If that does not work what OS are U using?

That did the trick. FYI: the OS is XP SP3.
Thanks for your help. JT
